The first part of Does It Make You Tired?, which Arisveah and I (N3cro) wrote together for the Soulsmake event. We decided to do an apocalypse/post-apocalypse Rats SMP AU.
Enjoy!This oneshot is like a prequel for the other(s), and occurs a little while before the second will.
Owen only has a few goals in his life: find a home, stay alive, and protect his mischief. Above all, he’ll protect his mischief.
But an apocalypse runs rampant through the world. It’s at a lull right now, but who knows how long the peace will last. And it’s taken so many lives.
The humans blame the rat hybrids. Of course they do.
All Owen wants to do is protect his mischief.
But his mischief won’t stay the same forever.Series

Summary
Gem stares into the fire. The flames are dying once more, so she throws another log on, and the tower of charred lumber shifts. A damp spot in the wood sizzles, and she lets it die out in relative quiet. Skizz’s snores punctuate the silence.
“It doesn’t matter,” she asserts, more to herself than anything. “But we hardly interact anymore, and I just don’t want to break this. What if she doesn’t even like me back?”
“She does,” Grian interjects.
“You can’t know that,” Gem insists. He looks at her flatly. “I’m her older brother. I know everything.” She deflates. Her eyes return to the floor, and she picks at a loose string in the blanket. “Yeah.”
Gem and Co. are trapped inside during a tropical storm. Ft: board games, blanket forts, and being in love with your best friend’s sister.
