Summary
Josh had never been so relieved to see Tyler, his best friend, the one who promised he would take Clancy's name and urge the rebellion forward nearly four months ago.
But finding Tyler in Dema after this long has brought its own challenges: he doesn't even recognize Josh, forced to write and perform songs by the Bishops.

Clancy reaches up and lets his fingers rest beneath Josh’s chin before tracing his thumb, feather-light, over the lower end of the welt. Josh freezes perfectly still. With his good eye, he watches the anger in Clancy’s expression slowly dismantle itself into passivity once more.

“What was your question?” he asks, so soft that Josh almost can’t hear him over the beating of his blood in his ears. His thumb passes a second time over the tender spot on Josh’s face. He doesn’t flinch.

I would always wake up first, and he would sleep in until nine or ten, groggy still until midday. It was always sunny back then. I don’t remember a single day where it rained.
The Torchbearer was an intensely fascinating person to Dema's Performer. He was fast, much faster than anyone with his build should be, and he had a secret which travelled with him as he made his perimeter escape from the city. He knew the Performer's true name. He knew who Clancy was, even when Clancy didn't know himself.
