It’s not like soulmates, where your mark gives you an identifying clue of who the person is so there’s no doubt when you make it official. The two marks together form some kind of cohesive picture; two halves of a whole. They’re a lot smaller than they appear in movies, that’s what surprised Shane. The mark appears around the time you become acquainted with your soulmate, whatever that means. He found his tiny hockey stick mark on his inner elbow the day after the draft picks. He hasn’t told his Mom yet that his soulmate is hockey itself, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
But the thing is. Every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. If you have a soulmate, you must have a rival. It’s some kind of karmic balance in the universe that no one can really explain.

They had an early flight.
That’s how this whole fucking thing started.
If they’d just flown into Boston in the afternoon, like they usually did, none of this would have happened.
Shane would have gone to Ilya’s house, stayed overnight, and been back in his hotel room before breakfast. He wouldn’t have gone for a walk, and Hayden wouldn’t have figured out exactly who Boston Lily is.

Summary
Henry didn't realise that being brave isn't a one-and-done thing. Like checking off a box. Bravery: accomplished.
Unfortunately, Henry has learnt, you can't just apply for an internal job transfer to another country and then move there without knowing anyone, and have that be the one brave thing you do. As if doing something so brave would fulfill his lifetime quota of brave things in one fell swoop. It seems unfair that he has to continue being brave in small and various ways each and every day.
Knocking on a neighbour’s door to introduce himself: brave.
Smiling at the man on the train yesterday morning when he leapt on board, and getting a nod back in response: brave.

Summary
Shane and Rozanov don’t usually work together. In fact, they never do. They work on different client teams, since there’s no need for more than one person at their level in the squad. They’re simply too good. Quite frankly, they cost too much.
So when Scott says that he wants them both to drop whatever they’re working on, because he has this client proposal that’s due on Friday — literally five days from now, Shane’s counted — it’s unprecedented.
Shane has a million reasons why this is a bad idea, waiting on the tip of his tongue. First of all, he’s not sure he actually can work with Rozanov.
He feels panicked at the thought, can feel his tie getting tighter around his neck, threatening to close off his supply of oxygen at any moment.
Scott glances between the two of them, at Rozanov sitting calmly and Shane feeling like he’s about to have a heart attack, and asks, “I assume you two get along okay?”
Rozanov looks across at Shane, licks his lips slowly before he speaks. “We are very close.”

Summary
Alex Claremont-Diaz is arguably the most skilled pediatric trauma surgeon Henry has ever worked with.
He’s also kind to their patients. Henry’s seen him squeeze a child’s hand while wheeling the bed off to pre-op, or kneel on the floor next to the family after a long and futile resuscitation. He’s always respectful toward Henry’s team, and he always returns to debrief with them after he’s through with each case in the OR.
And now Alex is here, standing in front of Henry’s workstation, in a pair of salmon scrubs that look tailor-made for his body, somehow. It’s really rather obscene, the fabric hugging his chest just-so, the deep vee, the faint hint of dark hair, and it’s all quite a lot, frankly, for Henry to be faced with at half-three in the morning.
“Dr. Claremont-Diaz,” says Henry, making a point to barely glance up from his computer. “I wasn’t aware we had a trauma coming.”
“We don’t,” shrugs Alex. “I was just bored.”

Summary
The second time Shane Hollander wakes up on November 16th, he has a panic attack.
The problem is — he tries to explain through gasped breaths after Hayden basically knocks down his door, shouting that they’re going to miss their flight — the thing is, Shane’s already woken up on November 16th. He’s already flown to Boston. He’s already been to practice, and he’s checked into the hotel, and he has lived this day before.
He doesn’t mention that he’s also already fucked Ilya Rozanov twice and had a fucking tuna melt that Rozanov made and drank the ginger ale that Rozanov bought specifically for him. He doesn’t mention that they’d snuggled on the couch watching TV like some kind of couple, like boyfriends.
He doesn’t mention that he fell asleep thinking about how Ilya — fuck, no, thinking about how Rozanov had called him sweetheart and Shane, and that, even now, he can’t quite get the cadence of Ilya’s voice out of his head.
