Summary
Dr. Jack Abbot has dealt with a lot. He's been through a war, learned to walk again in his late 20s, and now finds himself a lead attending in the Emergency Department, lovingly called the Pitt. He plans to keep his life as is for the time going forward. Stay on the right side of the law (as much as possible), to have friends but not deal with lovers, and try to keep a distance from anyone that might end up on his table with their life in his hands.
If that's the plan, how did he end up with a man that he might love on his dining room table, a bullet lodged in his side?
Well, no plan makes it through contact with the enemy, and Michael Robinavitch just can't be ignored.--

Summary
One last shift. That is all Robby had promised. Nothing this shift has gone right and it feels like everything is proving to him that his team doesn't trust him and that they are right to doubt. But, Dana trusts him once more, and Dr. Robby finds Mel in a fragile moment. He planned to help her. But it seemed in the end, she helped him more. Isn't that just the way of Dr. Mel King.

Summary

Summary
He stares at his message history, two texts, sent at different times. Both unanswered. It sets him on edge, the same way Dana pleading with him to talk to Robby had. The same way Robby had.
Jack, 21:38: ride safe brother. I’m only one call away
Jack, 02:14: text me when you get wherever you're going.
The texts stare at him, the delivered beneath them taunting him in ways that make him want to peel his skin off, pick at his nail beds and tear until he sees red. Robby hadn't said goodbye to him.

Summary
After the trauma bay confrontation that stops Robby from disappearing into a passively suicidal spiral, he starts therapy and tries, reluctantly, to stay alive on purpose. Then Baby Jane Doe enters his orbit and detonates something old and wounded in him. When he decides to pursue kinship fostering, Jack is horrified, convinced Robby has interpreted “get help” in the most dangerously Robby way possible. But once the process starts, Jack cannot watch him do it alone. What begins as triage becomes cohabitation, then partnership, then family.

“Say you got married,” Robby found himself asking. “Would you wear your dress blues? Or civilian clothes?”
It had only been an idle thought, no different than any number of easy, directionless musings of the sort that often came over the two of them on mornings like this one, when no one had a shift to go to for at least thirty-six hours. Robby didn’t mean anything by it. But he regretted the words the instant they left his mouth, even before he saw the incredulous grin slide over Jack’s face.
