"I LIVED!"
Merlin closed his eyes. He could have predicted Gwaine's arrival into the modern world would be bad...He hadn't anticipated Leon's to be worse. Leon and Lancelot were supposed to be easiest of them all. The crowd all turned. The knight in question was still dressed in his armor, hands risen high to signal his triumph as he looked around. Merlin awkwardly cleared his throat and pushed himself through.
"Merlin?" He asked when he caught sight of him "You survived as well! I knew you would persevere against the trials of life as any man should. Death cannot claim us!" A woman in the crowd sobbed "Why do you look so strange?" He asked and Merlin tried to ignore the angry whispers and glares thrown their way.
"Let's talk about it after the funeral."

Summary
“Come along Arthur,” the man says at last and Arthur represses the urge to pump a fist, “let’s see what more you can do.”
Arthur turns to his father who merely nods his approval, already walking away. The man looks at him with expecting eyes, holding out a hand and Arthur takes it. They walk side by side. Hand in hand.
This is the beginning of the end, of course.
But Arthur is only eight. How was he supposed to know?

Summary
Arthur was already aware that Merlin was everyone's favourite, but once he walks in on his servant sitting on the laps of his knights, trading kisses for pastries, he begins to wonder what it is about Merlin that makes him so irresistible.
"Come on, Merlin," said Gwaine, pulling Merlin onto his lap. "You're making us look bad."
"If the prince's armour isn't cleaned to his standards, I'll tell him it's all your fault," Merlin laughed, nonetheless taking the tankard of cider that Percival offered him.
"We will cover for you," promised Lancelot. "You are our mascot, after all."
"Mascot?" sniffed Merlin, screwing up his face.
"No, he's more like a good luck charm," said Gwaine, ruffling his hair.
"Excuse me!" huffed Merlin.
"Maybe a pet?" offered Leon.
"How about a valued member of the team?" suggested Merlin, throwing up his hands in exasperation.
"They're not mutually exclusive," Elyan commented.
