Summary
At first Edwin’s a bit like a puzzle. Charles is learning slowly but surely to understand him, to get a read on how the pieces fit together, and the more of an image he gets, the more he craves. All those layers... Charles reckons he’s got to be on the right path with him, because lately, at the end of most nights when they’re at home—when had he started thinking of the office as home?—alone together, Edwin’s stripping more and more of his layers off. Charles hadn’t let himself look too close at other blokes when he was alive, but with Edwin it seems like all he can do is look. And when he does, his eyes stray to Edwin’s chest and stick there, painfully curious, on the twin shadows hinting at jewelry he never would've expected Edwin to wear. He thinks Edwin’s got to have noticed him staring, but he still hasn’t said a thing.

Summary
Edwin cannot get them out of his mind.
Even when Charles is wearing all his layers, he remembers the twin little barbells are there. When Charles is simply lounging about the office in his singlet, as he tends to do, Edwin can see the shadow of the jewelry through the thin fabric, and it drives him to utter distraction.

Summary
This other him is so openly eager, so wanting. So quick to accept pleasure as if there’ll never be enough of it, like he’s a dried-up plant with rotted roots and Edwin’s the rain pouring over him. Charles can’t begin to pretend it’s not like looking at himself in a mirror. Can’t pretend he’s not wondering if Edwin’s making mental notes to learn which bits of this he’d like just as much as his alternate. Can’t pretend he’s not hoping Edwin is. Maybe that’s why he brought this up in the first place.

“Charles.” Edwin’s voice rang through their office space. “I have been thinking.”
“What else is new?” Charles idly played with a rolled-up wrapper from his place on the couch. He was slung across several cushions, and Edwin could not countenance how it might be comfortable.
