Children’s hair sometimes changes color as you grow. When he’s young enough for it not to be unusual, but old enough to know he’ll get in trouble for doing something ‘freakish’ again, Harry's hair goes from his father's dark locks to his mother's bright, most-likely-magical red hair.
It changes everything about who he identifies with, who he wants to grow up to be, and who he thinks he is. Instead of having James Potter as his idol, Lily turns out to be a much better influence.
So instead of seeing a scruffy, most-likely-muggleborn boy standing beside him in Madam Malkin's before their first year, Draco only has eyes for the scarlet-haired, green-eyed creature who just walked into his life. Being a Parselmouth came with the inherent predisposition to understand snake behaviours and imitate them. It was relieving Harry wasn’t going to kill anyone with venom, nor petrify them with his gaze. But also, somewhat frustrating as it was all completely useless. None of the skills that came with being a Parselmouth would help Harry survive Voldemort.
It might, in fact, have the opposite effect. For all Riddle's fury that Harry was the cause of his elder self’s defeat, he was fascinated by the fact Harry was also a Parselmouth. He had grabbed Harry’s face, turning him side to side looking bemusedly enraptured by Harry’s threat display. “At your age, I was imitating much more vicious snakes than this, Harry.”
That may have been all well and good, but Harry didn’t feel very vicious. He felt very threatened and in over his head.

After the war, Draco was acquitted for most of his crimes, and is released on house arrest under the care of an appointed guardian. Having his magic suppressed and monitored is one thing, but his Mother's cousin was an entirely different matter.
How is he going to cope when he has to live at Grimmauld Place with his cousin, Sirius Black, a baby Potter and no magic!

Growing up in London alone, Harry may escape the abuse of the Dursley's but he enters a world of neglect and handwork. When he's 13, he befriends a blue haired boy called Teddy, whom over the years becomes the closest of friends Harry could have asked for.
At 16, Harry is getting on with his life just fine. He's got two jobs, college, a great group of friends and an endless supply of cigarettes to keep his hands from uncontrollably shaking. And then, Teddy's parents announce they're coming down for the week and suddenly Harry has people coming up to him saying he's supposed to be dead and that a Dark Lord is after him.
