“Well,” Maddie started, “Eddie, that is my brother, Buck. This is a very on-brand first impression for him.”
Grinning, Eddie turned back to Buck and held his hand out. “Nice to meet you, Buck. I’m Eddie.”
Buck grasped his hand and squeezed it.
Wow. His hands were big. Eddie felt his face turn hot.
“Pleasure is all mine, Eddie.” Buck smiled at him and continued to hold his hand for longer than necessary.

Summary
He stopped in front of apartment 417, taking a deep breath before knocking three times.
The door swung open almost immediately.
Eddie’s breath caught at the sight that greeted him.
Buck stood in front of him wearing a pastel blue sweater that matched the blues of his eyes perfectly. His curls fell across his forehead in near perfect waves. Eddie wanted to run his fingers through them. The khaki slacks he wore fit just right, like they were specially made for him.
“Hi,” Buck said softly, a little breathy.
Eddie blinked, coming back to himself. “Hi." He grinned and held up the flowers. “These are for you.”

Summary
Buck walked them backwards until Eddie’s back hit the counter, tightening his fingers in the fabric of Eddie’s shirt and deepening the kiss.
Eddie pulled back, just a centimeter. His pupils were blown wide. “Buck,” he breathed before pulling Buck back in by the front of his apron.
“You and this apron,” Buck laughed breathlessly against Eddie’s lips.
“It’s hot, Buck.” Eddie pressed another searing kiss to Buck’s mouth. “You’re hot.”
Buck dropped his hands from Eddie’s waist to the back of his thighs. With a quick motion, he lifted Eddie up onto the counter, right into the mess of flour.
“Holy shit,” Eddie breathed, one of his arms around Buck’s neck. Buck stepped between Eddie’s parted legs. “That was so hot.”
Buck kissed him again, all teeth and heat and wanting. “You must think I’m hot or something.”

Eddie cleared his throat. “Would you, um–would you want to meet Chris?”
Buck froze with his back to Eddie.
Whoa.
Eddie wanted to introduce him to his son?
That was…that felt big.
“If–if you want to,” Eddie tacked on, a nervous tremor in his voice now. “I don’t–you don’t have to.”
Buck whirled around so fast, he nearly fell over.
“You want me to meet your son?” he murmured.

Summary
Buck broke through the surface of the water, gasping for air and reaching for something to hold onto. He grasped onto the first thing he could find, which just happened to be the mirror on an abandoned fire engine. He choked on seawater, salt burning his throat and lungs. He felt like he was on fire.
But that didn’t matter.
“CHRIS!” he yelled, his voice breaking. “CHRISTOPHER!”
Christopher mattered.
Fuck.
Buck hoisted himself onto the engine, desperately swiveling his head around. He cupped his hands around his mouth. “CHRISTOPHER!”

Summary
He looked at the banner and grinned. When he saw the pamphlets, Buck’s face scrunched with confusion. “What exactly am I looking at?”
“San Francisco! And Yosemite!” Chris cheered.
Buck’s eyes flicked to Chris, then to Eddie. “Yosemite?” he echoed.
Eddie nodded. “It’s on your travel bucket list.”
“You remember that?”
“Of course I do,” Eddie insisted. “San Francisco and Yosemite have been on your list since you made it. Chris and I planned a road trip.”
“You did--what?”
“I think we broke him,” Chris stage-whispered to Eddie. Chris grabbed the notebook with the itinerary, grinning as he shoved it into Buck’s hands. “Look at this! We planned a whole trip for you!”

Summary
“Sure.” Eddie pushed up from the counter and wandered over to the door. He opened it–
“Surprise!”
And froze.
His mom and dad stood on the porch in front of him, both of them wearing matching grins.
Eddie’s heart dropped onto the floor beneath him.
His parents were here. In Los Angeles. At his front door.
Oh god. They didn’t know. He hadn’t told them that he was gay and in a very serious relationship with a man and living with said man—
Holy shit. Holy shit.

Summary
“Aren’t you just so lucky to have a boyfriend that makes breakfast for you every morning?” Buck teased, smirking at Eddie.
“Won’t have a boyfriend for much longer,” Eddie replied. He dropped another kiss on Buck’s cheek before backing away. “See you tonight, have a good day!”
And then he was gone.
Buck stood frozen in the middle of the kitchen, his hand still hovering mid-air where he’d had it extended towards Eddie.
The rest of the room continued to exist–the fridge still hummed, the clock still ticked on the wall, the coffee pot still hissed–but Buck couldn’t really hear anything over the blood roaring in his ears.
What did Eddie say?

Summary
“Oh, hey, why’re you–Eds, why’re you crying?” Buck asked. He shut the door behind him, cutting them off from the rest of the shop.
Eddie turned to face Buck, wiping his cheeks hastily. “Because I’m lame and so in love with you and we’re getting married,” he rushed out in one breath before drawing in a shaky inhale.
Buck’s expression melted. “Sweetheart.” He pulled Eddie into a hug, wrapping both arms around him. One hand came up to the back of Eddie’s head, gentle fingers carding through his hair. “You’re not lame for being happy about this.”
Eddie sank into his embrace, resting his head against Buck’s chest. “It’s okay, baby, you can call me lame.”
Buck chuckled. “Well, if you’re lame for crying, then so am I. Because I teared up at the look on your face when I first walked out. I just hid it better than you.”

Summary
Surging forward, he cupped Eddie’s cheeks in both hands before finally closing the distance between them. Eddie’s hands landed on his back, his lips moving slowly against Buck’s.
The applause from the crowd faded away. The rain falling on them disappeared. The only thing that existed in this moment was Eddie.
Eddie, who was officially Buck’s husband.
Buck tilted Eddie’s back, deepening the kiss.
When they finally broke apart, Buck pushed his forehead to Eddie’s, both of their skin rain slick.
“Hi, husband,” Buck breathed, sneaking another kiss.
“Husband,” Eddie echoed, whispering. “I love you.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.”
“It is my pleasure to introduce the new Mr. and Mr. Diaz!” Bobby exclaimed.

Summary
Buck blinked rapidly, clearing his blurry vision. “Me too. I love you. I love you.”
Eddie put two fingers under Buck’s chin and tilted his head up. He waited until Buck met his gaze before he spoke. “I love you too. And I’m so, so incredibly happy that we met when both of us needed someone. We didn’t know it at the time, but I think we met when we did for a reason.”
“You think so?”
“Mhm. I do,” Eddie confirmed. “I had everyone at the station and you had Maddie and Chimney and your work friends, but we needed each other. You needed me and I needed you. Still do. Always will.”

Summary
“Oh, hi Mindy,” Buck greeted. “Is everything okay?”
“Um, I just got off of a call with a man named Bobby Nash,” she started, “he said he’d tried calling your personal phone a few times, but figured you were busy.”
Buck’s stomach dropped. Something pulled tight in his chest.
“Why did he call you?” Buck asked shallowly.
“Well, I – your husband is in the hospital, Buck,” Mindy said gently, like she knew the concept of wearing the spousal gloves. “Mr. Nash said there was an accident at work and that you should get to Presbyterian as soon as possible.”
Buck’s breath caught.
“Eddie’s – he’s hurt?” he breathed into the phone.
