Summary
The light vibration in his throat as he tried to speak was missing. Like his vocal cords had completely given up on him.
Grian looked back at the two suspected culprits with wide eyes, trying to hide the way his right hand was trembling on his neck.
“I had hoped it would not come to this”, the left one spoke, the voice devoid of emotion. “You have been chosen. You are to become one of Us. And Watchers do not speak.”

Evolution was supposed to be a normal server. Grian wasn’t supposed to get trapped in the End and be changed into something beyond his comprehension. As his playerhood gets ripped away, Grian is thrusted into the cold, unfeeling world of Watchers. A world he never was meant to belong to.
Deep down, he is still a player wanting to be whole again. A player wanting to get back his old connections and live a normal life. A player, who had lost his physical body and the ability to interact with his surroundings in the process of becoming a Watcher.
This story is a journey of learning to live once more, finding and returning to normal when "normal" seems unattainable, and finally being able to love yourself again.

The Watchers are a floundering race. Beginning as benevolent gods who knew all and Saw everything, Their power grew to lust, and arrogance. They believed They held the right to rule, every server and player that existed within the Greater Code.
But because of those attempts, another faction of the Council rose against the Watchers: the Listeners. They foiled the Watchers' plans, and wiped out much of Their race.
Now just two remain. Two of the highest among Their previously bountiful ranks. And Their pet project. An unwilling apprentice.AKA A Watcher Grian fic in which the Watchers took his hearing. Other than that, it proceeds much the same as any other Watcher Grian fic.

Grian fought to breathe around the hand on his throat, pinning him against the wall above the ground, even as his legs kicked and thrashed through its body. He fumbled for the salt his pocket, adrenaline and the lack of oxygen making his fingers clumsy. Black spots swirled in his vision as the hand tightened, and his limbs began to tingle, losing feeling. There were tears pooling in the corners of his eyes from the panic and pain, and he realized with a jolt of horror that there was no way he would be able to get the salt, no way he would be able to escape.
This was the end of the line for him. His limbs went slack as the black spots spread to cover his full vision, rendering him blind. He wasn't even going to be able to see his killer. Just black. His head felt fuzzy, light, and he sagged in the hold of the spirit, still stuck against the wall. He hoped it would destroy his body. He didn't want to hang around as a spirit, not when his company would be his murderer. He'd make a terrible ghost anyway.

He pushes his thumb against Martyn's gumline. Martyn rolls his eyes, but doesn't bite. Maybe just to mess with him, Bdubs hitches the curve of his lip higher. "Huh. You've still got all your spawnling teeth. I don't even see any budding fangs… Hey- you wanna punch me in the face?"
"Yessir, but that's unrelated to the XP gain."
"Oh, you're freakin' hilarious…" Bdubs withdraws his hand, wiping it dry against his leg. Since all of Martyn's friends have been jumpy, wide-eyed sheep with extra evasive sprinkles since they got here, Bdubs cracks the conversation open like a smacked walnut: "Where did you get your Education? Some sort of cult, right?"
Bdubs and Etho wrestle a skin on their server hub’s newest cult escapee. The glowing, hissing Martyn lives in a fishbowl (and/or under Etho’s couch) until he doesn’t.
