An AU where the four nations speak different languages:
The plan had been simple...
Step 1. Break the Avatar out of the Pohuai Stronghold.
Step 2. Drag the Avatar back to his ship.
Step 3. Sail home.
Step 4. Present the Avatar to his father and have his honor restored.Nowhere in the plan had Zuko accounted for becoming injured and the Avatar dragging him back to their camp. It certainly hadn't accounted for them taking him prisoner. Nor had it accounted for the added complication of Avatar's companions not having the decency to learn the Common Dialect. Only the Avatar understands him and communication in the group is a tangled mess.
Because when you don't speak the same language, how can you find a Common Ground?

this was SO funny but also heartwarming. my favourite type of fic.[“Exactly,” Zuko agreed, ignoring his soldier. “So… come along, prisoners.”
“Whoa,” one of the soldiers said when he realized Appa, behind Aang, was boarding the ship too. “Can’t that thing fly?”
Aang blinked at him innocently. “Who, Appa?” He laughed out loud. “Sky-bison can’t fly, where did you get that idea?”][“Not a chance!” Aang called as they edged towards Appa. “We’re escaping, and we’re taking you with us!”
“Why?” asked one of the soldiers, now standing in a loose semicircle around the group. They couldn’t really attack, given that there was a weapon being held to their prince’s neck… but they could ask questions. The group paused.
“Why?” Sokka repeated.
“Why are you kidnapping Prince Zuko?” the soldier repeated.
“None of your business!” Katara snapped after a moment of hesitation. They probably should have come up with a better explanation, but to be honest they hadn’t been able to come up with one that was better than just being evasive.][“And don’t try coming after us,” Sokka called down when he and Zuko were finally situated on the saddle. Which, while somewhat of a non sequitur at this point, was a good distraction from that little disaster.
“Yeah, don’t bother,” Aang echoed cheerfully, hopping up just after Katara. “And guess what, I lied! Appa can fly!”
And with that, Appa bounded up into the air, and they were off.][“Oh, that’s where you’re wrong,” Sokka interjected cheerfully.
“Oh?” Ozai responded in an unconcerned tone, one eyebrow raised condescendingly.
“Well, actually, everything you said was wrong.” Sokka pointed to each of his friends in turn. “Because you’re actually looking at a badass waterbending master , an earthbender who discovered a new type of bending, a prince who is more loyal to his nation than you ever will be, a fully-fledged Avatar who has mastered every element, and a strategist who was perfectly aware we were walking into a trap, thank you very much.” He grinned at Ozai, all teeth. “And this miserably incompetent group? We’re about to kick your butt.”]

“What?” Lu Ten’s eyes widened.
Zuko was barely four years old!
“Ozai said it would have been better for you to have never been born at all than being an Omega. He offended the Fire Lord, who declared if death was better, then Zuko shall die.”
“Gods above,” Lu Ten breathed.
“Ozai and I have a plan,” Ursa whispered. “I’m going to kill him.”
“That’s treason!” Lu Ten hissed.
“I will not survive the night.” Ursa closed her eyes. “I need your help, Lu.”
“Anything.”
“Without me, Zuko and Azula will have no one to protect them from him. You must take them as far from this place as possible.”
Lu Ten’s own life was in jeopardy, for any child he bore would have a claim on the throne.
“Please,” Ursa begged. “My life is forfeit, but my children—”
Lu clutched her hands. “I will take them, and I will love them as my own.” It was an easy promise to make. He already loved his little cousins.-

Summary
A rewrite of Avatar; The Last Airbender.
Banished and burned, Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation is told the only way to return to his home, to restore his honour, was to find the Avatar.
Three years later, Zuko was training when he discovers something which shakes him to his core. That the Avatar was closer then he thought.
With this discovery what he must do as the Fire Nation Prince conflicts with his duty as the Avatar. It is said that blood runs thicker then water, but with his eyes closed he can't tell the difference.

This is a rewrite where Zuko is the Avatar, Aang still survives the genocide by running away and getting stuck in an iceberg, everything happens chronologically to the show (episodes are still in line with the show, no jumbling them around) and how things are different (somewhat)- Words:
