There are pearls forming in Neptune's hair every now and then. The Ice Giant is always a bit embarrassed by the glowy small orbs that seem too noticeable in his blue locks. And yet...
Throwing them away felt wrong.
Like a part of himself is getting discarded. So, Neptune choose a different way for them to still hold use- sew them on his moons, his treasures- clothes.
OR:
Neptune left a mark on his children that will always lets him remember.

4 times they notice and 1 time they realise the purpose.

But sixteen, sleeping angels were attached to him and his all-consuming gravity right now, leaving him unable to escape into the kuiper belt. And Neptune would never let his moons see that.
...He wasn't even alone, so why was he so upset about being alone?
Neptune pressed the back of his hand to his eyes, trying to stifle the quiet sob that followed next- but it came anyway. A shaky, breathy gasp followed, causing him the hand in his hair to move back to his mouth again. He tried to breathe through it, tried to stop, stop before his moons actually wake- but his stupid brain refused to listen, as always.
Quiet tears stained his sleeves, but at least he made no sound. At least, Neptune thought, he did that right.
Until... a tiny, impossibly small, delicate body pressed itself against the back of his neck.
And Neptune froze.

Summary
Tomorrow is the 10th of October. A tired sigh escapes him. Triton rubs his eyes, already feeling the chaos that is brewing. It doesn't help that his little siblings are giggling between themselves and that his dad's- Neptune's eyes are glistering with softness and love.
A vulnerable and warm feeling settles in his core. Ugh... Why do they always do that when it's his birthday?
Or: every earthling year Neptune and his little kids plan a perfect birthday for his oldest child.
It always ends up in chaos but Triton doesn't mind. He loves them even if it's embarrassing to admit.

Hands went up into his hair and yanked- harder and harder, as if the pain would shake him awake. His panic broke the quiet of his orbit, gasps and sobs going unheard. He wanted to run away. He wanted to run, to flee, to leave- to wake up.

"Please." Neptune choked, collapsing on the ground. His entire being looked unstable and sickly- even if his gravity felt lighter now. He hated it. He absolutely hated it.
"I'm sorry. Come back" He pleaded through his cries. He hit his head with his fists, multiple times, trying to wake up. Wake up. Give me my moons back.
Give me my babies, and I will never leave my orbit again.
Wake up.
There was no waking.
Just the silence his moons would now never be able to fill.
