Basically Medkit having his childhood hope for goodness in people stripped away from him, past scenes of what led up to the incident and how it happened, and a pivot to Medkit ending Subspace in the present. Reflection of what Medkit wishes he could have done and how everything that the two could've been was always doomed follows. Also beating himself up over it even though he hates the guy.
Past Medkit has "I can fix him" mentality and current Medkit has "I couldn't fix him and I can't stop thinking about it but I am too emotionally constipated to want to acknowledge that".

Subspace's rot is getting to him, and he doesn't have much time left. With so much left to invent, there's only one man he knows who can save him from his demise.. though he and Medkit ended on bad terms, really bad terms.

His neck was numbed with Subspace's gentle breath gliding across from it, steaming his skin in a layer of soft poison rot as heat does to a mirror.
The numbing wasn't a pleasant feeling, nor a familiar one, as any sort of sense from where his neck and collarbone met trickled onto a blank slate. But that shakiness the inventor always lulled from his throat against him certainly felt nostalgic. And then, there was a glint, a sharp rolling of bone. Teeth.
Medkit pushed Subspace's mask back against his lips, awkwardly slamming it against his face without any aim.
