Usually, the snippets of memories Shiro was allowed to see from Kano’s adventures every night were nothing extraordinary. There were flashes of black-blue sky, flashes of the brown-orange concrete lit by orange street lamps, flashes of other animals and stumbling human feet at a distance and occasionally the blue-black green-black of a dumpster when he went foraging. But lately, they’d been different. Lately, they’d been flashes of the same half-lit alleyway, the same milk crate, the same rusted metal backdoor. There’d been flashes of red and white checkered food trays and the same pair of beat up sneakers, fond memories of warm, brown hands and kind, brown eyes. It felt so familiar to him, everything about it. The memories danced around behind his eyelids and tingled in the back of his brain, screaming at him that he knew that place and he knew that face and he’d seen of it all before. But he just… couldn’t put his finger on it, no matter how many times he played the snippets over in his brain.

He closes his eyes and recalls the sound of Pidge’s breathing and snores, her minty smell, watching the rise and fall of her side (she always slept on her left side), and the sweat-soaked covers they shared on particularly difficult nights.
Nothing ever happened between them then. It was platonic. All of it. But knowing that she trusted him enough to let him zip up her suit, watch her and help her in her most vulnerable moments, and that she’d do the same for him, he can’t help but wonder: 'Is that what I’m missing from my life?'

Honestly? This is pure self-indulgent self-insert fanfiction for Voltron. I don't expect anyone to read this because of it, it's honestly for my own personal enjoyment, but there is some stuff in here for actual team building and bonding that the show lacks (aka it's beyond just my own self indulgence). There could've been so much more, and DreamWorks failed to seize upon the opportunities they had in their grasp. So, I'm including what they forgot: character development.Series
