It is the natural law of the world that each person has at least one soulmate. The amount of bonds tied to the soul can be easily determined with how many unique symbols there are in the soulmark everyone was born with.
Just as the sun always rises every morning and the stars twinkle every night, every pair—or group—of soulmates would always have a Dreamer. For even with the unique soulmarks that would hopefully allow soulmates to recognize each other, the vastness of the planet still makes it difficult for them to find one another.
Legends say that it was Gaia’s pity, for she could not bear the thought of soulmates never finding each other. Hence, blessing each bond with a Dreamer who would be able to unite their fated souls together. After awakening in their coming of age, a Dreamer would be able to connect everyone who shares their soul bond through a shared dreamscape. It was because of this blessing, many were able to find their fated ones during their lifetime.

Genesis, Angeal, Sephiroth, and Zack were considered lucky soulmates who have found each other way before shared dreams. But that luck backfires when they could only meet their last soulmate in a space beyond sleep and reality.

The world is dying. It’s slow, it’s long; the last bloom of life on Gaia won’t happen for decades, for centuries. But it is dying and something must be done. It drains the planet of the last of it’s will, but it works.
1989: Nebelheim, Western Continent; Ada Strife enters ShinRa’s Yule Relief Contest when once she'd ignored it. And wins. It changes Cloud Strife's life completely.
AKA: President Shinra is a slut and inadvertently saves the world, Rufus just wants his baby brother to be successful, Cloud is still determined to be a SOLDIER, and Vincent has no idea who thought it was a good idea to put so many maladjusted children in charge of everything.

Cloud made a promise to Gaia, believing he would return to the past to stop Sephiroth from erasing Cloud’s existence. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned. It didn’t help that the Goddess elected to solve the issue of his continued existence through the use of Sephiroth’s cells. Couldn’t she have made him a bit bigger at least?
When Sephiroth was called to an emergency in Hojo’s laboratory, he didn’t expect to find the Professor dead, nor was he expecting to walk out a father to a mysterious five-year-old boy. Nor was Shinra, for that matter. Nevertheless, he’ll adjust. He hopes.
Shinra’s SOLDIERs hadn’t expected to babysit Sephiroth’s new son, who may or may not be looking to commit patricide.
(AKA Gaia saw Sephiroth needing a family and yeeted Cloud at him like a son-shaped grenade.)

Damian got his father back, Dick got his freedom, and even Bruce gets to do his fresh-start bullshit not like he’s doing much with it since he’s wasting it on Batman incorporation shit and yet he’s here. A high school dropout taking care of a company he doesn’t really care about and doing media control for a branch of the company he’s never even looked over.
Didn’t he promise himself that he wouldn’t become this person who only does things for others when they don’t give anything back? He already lived this life with his parents for the first half of his life and even though he thought he was safe and fine he should have known not to be so naive as to think it would stay different.

Bruce honestly should have expected this from Hal, Oliver, and Barry. The fact all three of them had been listed as the organizers of the day's "team bonding" meeting really should have tipped him off to what was in store for him, but somehow, he just hadn't expected to find himself playing preteen girl games when he walked into the meeting room today. If he was going to have to sit through his co-workers wax poetic about his physical assets, well, petty payback was a game his children had delighted in teaching him how to play. He's just happy Dick was there to record the entire thing for posterity's sake, though he could have done with less laughter at his own expense.
