Twenty years Odysseus had been gone. Away from his home, his wife, and his son. When he arrived back he easily beat the challenge his wife had set for her suitors then painted his castle walls red with their blood, having heard them talking of daring to assault his wife and kill his son.
A son that he had yet to see.
After reuniting with his wife he decided to try and relax by taking a walk along the peaceful cliffside. And on that cliffside he stumbled upon a pretty young boy all alone.

When your son comes to you because his best friend’s entire apartment building burnt down, your response shouldn’t be, “Well, that’s unfortunate,” like it was just something mildly unpleasant. It’s unfortunate when your plans to play lacrosse are interrupted by a thunderstorm, or when you drop your croissant in a puddle. When you lose your home, it’s devastating.

“I can help, if you want,” somehow both knew the other was genuine in their speech. Some sort of ingrained kinship in those who have been broken to core but still continue on? Or, maybe it was just unspoken words shared by wide unblinking eyes.
