Xehanort is trying to end the world and Vanitas doesn't particularly care for that. On top of that, he has a personal vendetta against the old man, so stopping him is like hitting two birds with one stone.

After defeating the Organization, Vanitas thought it was over. Xemnas was dead, his plans have been stopped and now, they can just settle in their normal and new lifes. Nope. Seemingly not happening.
Because Xehanort is an asshole and apparently can't be killed.Or: Dream Drop Distance happens and Vanitas is pissed about that.
