Summary
People have been going missing. As Kaeya gets some intel that the fatui might be behind the disappearances, he goes to dragonspine alone despite Jean’s explicit instructions not to.
Little does he know, the information was meant to lure the other Ragnvindr brother. After sustaining a life threatening injury, Kaeya is used to bait in the real prize, Diluc. Unfortunately for the fatui, Kaeya knows one thing they don’t. Diluc would never come to his rescue.

He’s met with only more silence. All three of his friends look at him like he’s said something particularly absurd.
“We’re not dating.” He insists.
Kaminari’s eyebrows furrow. He hesitates before he leans across the table. “Eijiro…” He says slowly, “...Are you sure?”

Hitoshi knows he’s a lot slower today. He can feel it. Every single movement feels like he’s been put on slow-mo. The room is stuffy and hot, and the space pushes an uncomfortable weight onto his body. All of his limbs feel ten million thousand times heavier, to the point where even breathing feels near impossible and standing is the most physical activity he’s ever done.
He just wants Shouta to end the training session already. He wants to feel a pillow suffocating his face as he sinks into bed. His cats’ scratchy meows as their claws dig into his back and crush his spine.
He just wants to sleep.
Forever.
Or maybe just overdose on sleeping pills. Same thing.

“What, uh –“ Hitoshi coughs and it tastes like copper, sending more pain directly to muscles and bones and fucking teeth. He tries to keep is voice flat, but it peaks and jumps as he stumbles over what’s supposed to be a dry joke. “- What give you t-that impression?”
“Because you’re getting blood on my couch.”
Hitoshi has a rough patrol and ends up at Eraserhead's apartment.

Just before Diluc’s return, they may just face their greatest challenge yet. And maybe they’ll find their way back home along the way.
OR
Kaeya nearly gets killed by Jean’s assassin, Jean becomes Kaeya’s knight in shining armor, and Diluc finds his way back home to his brother. In that order.

Kaeya is captured by the abyss order and finds himself held captive for who knows how long while his body is breaking apart due to the corruption. He doesn't know what they're feeding him, but it makes him sick, very very quickly. As he deteriorates his grip on reality shatters. But... help comes from an unexpected place, and he's reunited with Diluc who, of course, can't just leave him behind.

In a moment the ground is back to being unsteady behind him. In a moment he's eight years old again, being dragged back to a city he didn't belong to by his ear, because no one in his life can let Kaeya just live.
