Summary
His chest tightened. He kept trying anyway, reaching for something, some shared interest, some thread to hold onto, but every attempt slipped through his fingers. He could feel himself overheating, like his own skin was too loud, too bright, too obvious.
By the time he muttered an excuse about needing a refill, his glass had been empty for ages. He just needed to get away, to breathe, to figure out what invisible rule he’d broken this time.
At the bar, Shane scanned the crowd and finally met Ilya’s eyes for the first time that night. He flinched but forced a smile, raising his hand in an awkward wave. Ilya’s face remained unreadable as he glanced at Shane, then turned back to the group he was chatting with. The smile on his lips was meant for them, not for Shane.
OR
Shane and Ilya are at an awards after-party, Shane doesn't fit in, and it's plainly obvious how bad he is at this stuff. Whilst they both agreed not talk in public, he regrets it when he overestimates how much he can drink. Ilya makes him feel better. -

Summary
Shane and Ilya have a fight. That fight bleeds into their playing on ice and Ilya accidentally goes too far and lets his frustration take over resulting in Shane getting injured. Yuna and David are not aware of Shane and Ilya (the cottage pasta scene was cute but it didn't happen here) Shane feels entirely too much and begins a phase of self-destruction to cope.

Shane stepped off the ice as a flurry of Ottawa jerseys flew over the boards to replace him and his linemates. Sweat poured down his brow as he collapsed onto the bench, hastily squirting water into his open mouth. He wiped at his eyes as he glanced from the Jumbotron to the ice and back again. Thirty-eight seconds. Thirty-seven. Thirty-six. They were going to win. His body was buzzing as the crowd roared their approval when Ilya cleanly stole the puck off a Colorado Avalanche defenseman. Ilya’s face was set in a hard line of concentration as he sent the puck sailing back to their zone, where Wyatt collected it behind the net. Twenty-two seconds. Shane rose to his feet, the melee of sounds muffled by the blood pounding in his ears. This would be his fourth Stanley Cup trophy, but it had never felt like this before. Terror over a last-second goal combined with disbelief and a flicker of hope. He clung to that little flame of hope as the seconds ticked away.
Shane earns a very, very nice reward for his performance in the playoffs.
Featuring: Ilya sending Shane's mind into the stratosphere, plenty of body worship and bondage, and another new toy!

“You are sick,” Ilya said slowly, enunciating every word. He sprayed another stream of water into his mouth, and Shane couldn’t help but stare at the way his throat moved. He felt hypnotized, trapped in Ilya’s stare, and the other man put the bottle down. “Have you scene before, Shane Hollander?”
Shane’s expression crumpled before he could wrestle it back under control. He cleared his throat, his stomach cramping uncomfortably. “Have I what? Have--scened with someone? What do you mean?”
“You are sub,” Ilya spoke with the water bottle waving, his voice casual. He ignored Shane’s defensive posture, gesturing to the trash can. “Sub get sick when not scene. When no Dom to scene with,” Ilya trailed off, looking Shane up and down, lingering on his collarless throat before continuing. “Is…unhealthy.”
In a world where subs, Doms, and Switches are biologically determined, subs are not accepted within a Dom-oriented sport like hockey.
Sub Shane Hollander keeps his designation hidden, but when confronted with Dom Ilya Rozanov, he can't fight his designation for long.

Shane recovered at his parents’ house. For once, he didn’t watch any hockey games after the Metros were knocked out of the playoffs. He knew it baffled his mom, but how was he supposed to tell her that the only thing he wanted to do while watching was analyze and pick apart the plays with Ilya fucking Rozanov — the man who had eviscerated his heart?
Some days Shane felt so empty he didn’t know if he even cared about hockey anymore. That always sent him spiraling into a panic, because how could he not care about hockey?
All Shane Hollander was supposed to care about was hockey.

Ilya looks at the space between his legs that had once been occupied by dark eyes and a constellation of freckles and a smart mouth. He feels bereft.
This sub, Shane Hollander, is special. Not quite a brat, though not sweet and obedient either. The thought of fighting for his submission, of smacking that smart mouth and then kissing praises against it, is tempting.
