Scar was going to die.
Not metaphorically. Not eventually. He was going to die right now, right here on Lizzie’s couch, clutching the side of his face like a Victorian child afflicted with consumption.
“Okay,” Lizzie said calmly, sipping her coffee. “Counterpoint: you’re being dramatic.”
“I can feel my pulse in my tooth,” Scar whimpered. “My tooth, Lizzie. That’s not supposed to happen.”
Jimmy, sitting cross-legged on the floor with Scar’s phone in his hands, nodded gravely. “Yeah, no, that’s bad. That’s like… dentist bad.”
Scar made a strangled noise and rolled onto his side. “Don’t say that word.”
“What, dentist?” Jimmy asked.
That same strangled noise escaped scar, the cold air assaulting his teeth, leaving nothing but a pained groan in its place.
