Elrond fights his way across Eregion and saves Celebrimbor from a cruel death at the hands of Sauron; in turn, he gets captured by the Deceiver, and no one is able to save him.
On the very edge of Middle-Earth, a very ancient elf turns away from the sea he cast one of the cursed Silmarils into. He turns East, towards a lingering shadow, and sets off to find the child he raised.
(Alternatively: The story of how Elrond Peredhel had the worst month of his life, but got to punch one of his father figures in the face by the end of it.)

“So, Skye, tell us about yourself, what brought you here?” Phil said as he began the official interview once Skye had ordered.
They stilled, before confidently telling their pre-planned story. “Well, currently I’m quite interested in computer science.” True. “I recently came to this area, moved across town, and I’m looking for a more stable income to help support myself.” Also true. “I found SHIELD online and HQ seemed like an ideal place to do work. Where I came from, people weren’t so accepting, so it was refreshing to come here, where most people get it.” Also true. Skye was killing it with their skirting of the whole living in a van, taking random online hacking jobs for money, ran away from their orphanage thing. “I was talking with my new friends here, and they suggested that there might be space here for another worker, so here I am.” They put a big innocent smile on their face, hoping they wouldn’t be interrogated about the story.
OR
Skye runs away from their orphanage and everyone who sees them says, "Mine now."
