“No, I meant—” Mike’s breath hitched. He was searching, his gaze darting over Will’s face. “I meant about Tammy.”
“Yea…?” Will’s throat was tight.
Mike’s question was a whisper, a detonation in the small space. “Am I your Tammy?”

Will’s arms slowly uncrossed. He was processing, his eyes darting over Mike’s face as if searching for the lie. “Two weeks?”
Mike nodded, a stiff jerk of his chin.
“So… when you were dreaming…”
“It was just you.” The confession was quiet. Absolute. “It’s only ever been you.”

abbot and robby calling whitaker “angel eyes” as a nickname so they can discreetly talk about him without others being in the know. and it’s going so well, no one can follow the conversation—well, dana and heather could; they clocked it so fast when the term of endearment rumbled out of robby like a purr after they all watched whitaker scurry to the scrub dispenser again—until one day, whitaker almost fell off the gurney—hopped on it to administer CPR—and robby catches him with a, “woah. easy there, angel.”
and everyone in the room freezes, recognition creeping in. and whitaker? he’s staring wide-eyed at robby, his cheeks bright and his lips parted for a soft, “oh.”

And then his fingers were there, sinking into the hair at the crown of Dennis’s head.
It was just as soft as he’d imagined. Softer. He was definitely using some kind of a special conditioner. The slight curl wrapped around his fingers like a caress. He felt the solid warmth of Dennis’s skull beneath his palm, a shocking, intimate contact. He registered the perfect texture, the clean scent of generic hospital shampoo—and the absolute, petrified stillness of the man beneath his touch.
The world crashed back in.
The card game had stopped. Princess was frozen, a card halfway to the table. Mohan’s laughter had died in her throat. Mel’s smirk had vanished, replaced by wide-eyed shock.

“Oh?” Will says, and it’s definitely teasing now, enough for Mike to feel himself turning warm, all down his neck and to the tips of his own – sadly unpatterned – socks. “Someone?”
“Yeah.” Mike nods. Oh, god. This is fine. “In a very arbitrary sense of the word. Just– people. Someone.”
Mike is approximately ninety-eight percent sure that his feelings are requited. That last two percent, however, has really been throwing him for a loop.
