Every whisper of the wind feels like footsteps. Every rustling leaf is a potential threat. He knows better than to trust logic—it’s failed him too many times before. Not with her. He can’t take chances. Not when Morgan’s safety hangs by a thread.
“What’s wrong, Mo?” he asks again, his tone soft but tight, fraying at the edges like the fabric of his patience. He adjusts his grip on her, his hands firm and steady, as though holding her tightly enough can somehow shield her from everything going wrong around them.
“I have to go potty,” she whispers, the words so timid and achingly innocent that Peter’s heart clenches. She sounds so small—smaller than she ever has before, even when she’s wrapped herself up in his arms to hide from a thunderstorm or begged him to stay with her until she falls asleep. -

Summary
After Peter's precarious position goes from bad to worse time and time again, he is left all alone with nothing but his anger and resentment at the world to keep him company. He wonders how much more he can take and whether the growing grudge between him and the Avengers will be enough to finish him off for good. Will he be able to complete his mission in time? Set after Spiderman Homecoming.

Peter’s just trying to balance his school scholarship, his part-time internship at Stark Industries, being a teen vigilante, and trying to learn how to survive all on his own.
Everything seems to be too much for the teenager, who can’t seem to ever catch a break.

Meanwhile, the Avengers are trying to hunt him down for reasons completely unknown to Peter. They have one mission: to track Spiderman down and bring him into SHIELD. They don’t realize the “threat” they’re chasing after is just a broken teenager without anyone looking out for him.

It's been two years since Peter faked his death and helped to take down HYDRA. Things had been great since then– he asked MJ out, started attending Columbia, and got to continue being Spider-Man.
So, when Nick Fury showed up in his apartment once more, Peter knew his good luck streak was coming to a close. Sure enough, Fury informed him that there was an alien named Thanos intent on collecting ridiculously powerful “infinity stones” in order to use them to wipe out half of the universe.
Which, really? Peter just wanted to be able to make it to his college graduation.
Thanos had other plans.

Reading the first story isn’t technically a requirement to understand the actual plot of this one, but it does establish how Peter got to this more independent/skilled mindset and also makes a LOT of references to the first one, so I’d recommend reading it to understand the characterizations and callbacks.

Eight months ago, Spider-Man was killed in an explosion orchestrated by HYDRA, leaving behind his mourning friends and family.
Eight months ago, Peter Parker opened his eyes in an underground bunker, in a room with Director Fury.
The only one who knows of Peter’s continued presence in the land of the living is Fury himself, and he offers Peter a proposal— becoming an undercover SHIELD agent.
Fury's motivation: a HYDRA computer disk containing critical information– and Peter (enhanced, anonymous, and seemingly deceased) is the perfect undercover agent.
Peter’s motivation: protect his friends and family, and continue his duties as Spider-Man, in order to take down one of the most infamous supervillain organizations in the world. No biggie.
