Zuko knelt before his father on the day of Ozai's coronation and said, "I am your loyal servant. I do not fear being burned."
Zuko remembers, vividly, bowing before the court, bowing before his father, and wishing he could say something else. Something like, I will honor you, or respect you, or even obey you.
He wishes there was some other way to prove loyalty, some other way to prove love.
He wishes he could have said something true, but he has always, always feared being burned.

'In the driver's seat, Kine drums his fingers against the wheel and sighs. His eyes are fixed firmly on the road ahead. "The Headless Rider is leaving Japan tonight."
Izaya glances down at the knife still embedded in his side, held there by thin tendrils of black shadows that spill out of the open window next to him. In pockets of fluorescent light, the buildings that line the expressway flash by him. The brightness pierces through him and sends more pain spiking through his head. He closes his eyes.
"Take me to Kishitani Shinra."'

Maybe he didn’t care enough to look at the poster before it got sent out. Or maybe, Ozai didn’t actually remember which side of his son’s face he had burned off all those years ago. Zuko wasn’t sure what was worse. Ozai had know which side the scar was on. He had to remember. Right?
