And Newt knows that a guaranteed way to get frustrations out would be ideal.
(At their disastrous first meeting, Newt and Hermann end the night with a round of hate sex before they part. When they end up at the same Shatterdome years later, it's easy to fall into old patterns.
But it's a bit hard to hold onto being "rivals with benefits" when you're slowly falling in love at the end of the world and realizing that you feel more at home in their ribs than you ever have anywhere else.)

Newt and Hermann rebuild, relocate, accept the Nobel Prize for Physics, fight over furniture, and strive to carve out a space for themselves in a world where they're inextricably linked - in the the press, in their personal lives, and in their own heads.
