The seven days after RFA Shane Hollander signed an offer sheet from Boston were the longest of Ilya's life. They were also some of the best.

    Summary

“I was afraid this might be what you were hiding.”

    Ilya swallows hard. “Afraid?”

“I knew it wouldn’t be something bad,” Shane says. “But I was starting to get scared it was something really, really sad instead.”

Or: Ilya survives a suicide attempt as a teenager and spends the rest of his life hiding the scars. Everyone assumes, incorrectly, they know what he’s hiding. Until Shane.

So what is the plan now, Mr. Spreadsheet?

“Honestly I was kind of hoping your consciousness would just click back into your body once I touched you.” Shane scratches the back of his head.

You treat me like slap bracelet, Ilya complains.

After a bad hit knocks Ilya’s consciousness out of his body — literally — Shane finds himself sheltering the soul of his decade-long situationship in the back of his head. Turns out it’s a lot harder to keep secrets when you share a body.

    (They definitely still try, though.)
