Summary
“But he’s Buck,” Theo explains, pushing a small finger into Buck’s chest, as if to show Tommy exactly who Buck was. “Everyone calls him Buck.”
Tommy’s face relaxes slightly as he answers, “yes, that’s true, but—”
“Everyone!” Theo cuts Tommy off, holding up his hand as he begins to count on his fingers. “Me, Chris, Auntie Hen and Karen, Uncle Chimney, Ravi—”
Once he runs out of fingers on his one hand, he looks up at Buck, realization dawning on his face. “Aunt Maddie calls you Evan!” He exclaims, almost shouts in Buck’s face, eyes comically wide at this, apparently very important, piece of information.
Buck nods. “Yes, she does. Sometimes.”
“Aunt Maddie does, sometimes.” Theo reiterates to Tommy, his eyes narrowing as he cocks his head to the side, thinking. “Wait— Eddie does too! But only sometimes. Like less sometimes than Aunt Maddie. I think? But Eddie is Eddie, so it’s different.”
Tommy can’t help the snort he lets out, “you’re right about that, kid.”
Or, Buck runs into his ex at the grocery store, which forces Buck to confront feelings he's been ignoring for far too long.

Summary
“So,” Buck says, head spinning. He’s really feeling the alcohol now. They definitely should have eaten something before drinking. “No women.”
Eddie fumbles as he sets the bottle down on his bedside table. “No women.”
“What about men?” Buck blurts, which is—crazy, because again: neither of them are gay.
They’re just two straight guys. Two straight guys in Eddie’s bed, tipsy, and—and Eddie doesn’t want to sleep with women. Which means nothing.
Beside him, Eddie goes preternaturally still. “I would know, if I—you know.”
“Okay.” Buck’s hands twitch at his sides. “I—yeah. Me too.”
Then, very seriously, Eddie turns to look at him. “If I were gay, you would be my first call.”
Warmth blooms in Buck’s chest. Eddie’s so nice to him. “Dude,” he says, touched. “You’d be my first call too.”
Or: a story set in season 2 featuring tequila, Just The Tip, and, finally, a kiss.

Summary
Eddie's hand shot up before his brain could stop him.
"Two thousand."
It was for the orphans.
The words left his mouth like they’d had been fired from a cannon, and every head at his table swivelled toward him.
"Eddie?" Chimney's eyebrows climbed so high they nearly lifted off his face.
"What." Eddie kept his gaze fixed on the stage, where Buck had gone very still, that grin frozen in place and his eyes locked directly on Eddie. “May can bid for Ravi, but I can’t bid for Buck?”
“I think that was different?” Chimney gaped at him. “…wasn’t it?”
Or
Eddie bids on Buck at the auction, things escalate from there.

Summary
“Buck, it’s a Thursday. We’re not getting drunk on a Thursday.”
Buck shrugs a shoulder, pulling out his shaker and cocktail-making equipment and placing them amidst the chaos of supplies. “We don’t have work tomorrow.”
“Okay, but Chris needs to be picked up at 8 am from Camp and—”
“And I will set a dozen alarms.” Buck beams at him. He already knows he’s won. He knows when Eddie is about to concede. He knows Eddie better than he knows the back of his own hand.
“Buck,” Eddie says warningly, shaking his head like he’s setting his foot down, but Buck knows better.
He leans down on his elbows on the counter, his head placed atop his hands, matching Eddie’s tone with a mock-serious, “Eddie.”
A beat passes. Eddie’s lips twitch up into a half-smile despite himself. Got him.
“...Fine. Prove your point.”

Summary
Buck always spends Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day with Maddie, much to Eddie and Chris’s frustrated disappointment. They understand, of course, that Buck wants to be with his family at Christmas.
This year, though, Eddie finds it harder than ever, as he’s also coming to terms with the fact he’s in love with his best friend. And Chris? Christopher just wants to spend Christmas with his two dads. Together.
When a last minute decision to see Buck reveals he’s not where he should be, Eddie needs to work out the truth about how Buck spends his Christmases.
And maybe that will lead to the sharing of other truths as well.

“Rav, I’ll just be—”
He glances up, and that is not Ravi Panikkar. Instead, it’s Eddie Diaz who stands there in full goalie gear, grinning down at him like they’re old friends. “Hey, man. Just thought I’d say hey. Gonna be fun being on the same team for once, yeah?”
Buck scoffs, standing and grabbing his stick. “Right.”
“C’mon, man. We’re teammates now.” Eddie tugs off a glove and holds out his hand. “Fresh start?”
Fresh start. Sure. Like he’s not stepping into Chimney’s spot, acting like they’re not massive boots to fill. Like, he hasn’t spent years being a massive dick every time they’ve gone head-to-head. Like Buck is supposed to just—
Buck shakes his head, huffing before pushing past him, shoulders colliding roughly as he makes his way out of the locker room.

“You didn’t know he was doing this?” Taylor asks as she takes her phone back.
“I didn’t know we were dating,” Buck whispers, eyes tracking Eddie as he heads back to the table. Taylor laughs and quickly stops.
“Oh my god, you’re not joking. Well, good luck with uh - that,” Taylor snorts. She’s gone before Eddie sits back down, sliding two gin and sodas across the table towards Buck.or

Summary
"I can cover the cost of your blood. Now, later, whenever. And you–"
"You want me to give you my blood," Buck finishes, his voice airy, his smile too calm. "So you’re always big and strong for your next brawl."
Eddie smiles wider, lips cracking open again as blood beads on his mouth. "It’s a win-win situation." He leans closer, their breath mingling. "What do you say?"
Buck is staring at his lips now. Watching the drip trail down Eddie’s chin.
Eddie lifts a finger to his chin, collects the slow-running blood, and brings it up to Buck’s lips.
Buck’s eyes dilate. His breath catches. "Bad idea," Buck murmurs, but his voice is ragged, trembling with restraint.
"Good idea," Eddie counters, pressing the blood to Buck’s mouth like war paint. "How does turning someone work? Can you feed from me without turning me? We’d save a lot of money that way."or: Eddie is fighting to feel in control and nothing makes him feel more in control than taking care or Buck.

“You want any cockporn?”
Buck’s pretty sure he must’ve heard wrong, except— Eddie sucks in a sharp breath. Buck rolls over to stare at him, open-mouthed. Eddie blinks, face suddenly unreadable.
“Cockporn?” Buck asks, only barely holding back a guffaw.
“Cock…porn. I meant popcock— oh my God,” Eddie slaps at his own face, squeezing his eyes shut. “Cockp— no, popcock— shit!”
“Take your time,” Buck tells him. Knows his voice is full of mirth.
Eddie exhales, relaxing his face. “P-O-P-C-O-R-N.”
“There you go.”
Face beet-red, Eddie mumbles, “Shut the fuck up. I’m gonna get– that. The corn, in its popped, um… form.”
Pursing his lips, Buck nods along sagely. “You do that.”

Hen sighs. “Something had to be said before you idiots put us in mortal peril.”
“I’d never do anything to jeopardize our safety on a job! You know that Hen.”
“Maybe not on purpose,” Chim chimes in, “but, see, the thing is, when you flirt with our Buck, his brain turns off. He just bluescreens.”
“You’re flustering the poor boy, Eddie,” Hen adds. “And it’s making him dumb.”
“-er,” Chim adds.
“Wha- Buck isn’t flustered.”
Eddie is flustered. His face feels hot. He takes another sip of his coffee to give his hands something do to, but that only makes him feel warmer. Shit.
Hen levels him with the most deadpan look. “Last week he walked into a stop sign after you called him ‘big boy’ on a call.”
Eddie nearly spits out his coffee.

"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Eddie retorts, setting his hands on his hips as his posture stiffens. "I thought you told Chris you were going home."
"Well I decided not to," Buck answers dismissively. "Is that a problem?"

Summary
"The 118, the home base for the Nash Crime Family, is an old, blown-out fire station, in a part of Los Angeles not often visited by more reputable types. The windows are boarded up and blacked out and the garage doors attached to the bay are firmly affixed by chains and padlocks to iron rings embedded into the cement floor.
They call it the 118 because that's the number on the outside of the building. Inside too, if you know where to look.
Sometimes, Buck thinks about the firefighters who used to work here. Maybe they were a family too."

“C'mere," Buck says, sitting up to scoot closer to Eddie.
"What are you doing?” Eddie asks, and Buck sighs.
"You can just kiss me, get a taste of the lip balm, and tell me what flavour you think it is.”
Eddie can’t believe his ears.
"That is such a stupid way to win a bet, Buck."

Eddie rolls his eyes, shaking his head before planting both hands on the sides of Buck's face and hauling him in to press their lips together.

Eddie presses the fabric drenched in peroxide to Buck’s arm causing him to double over. His hand finds the arm resting on his thigh and surrounds Eddie’s wrist with a death grip while his head falls forward onto Eddie’s shoulder.
“Fuck,” he grits through his teeth.
Eddie’s breath hitches. He tries to move but he’s frozen. Buck is groaning and wriggling against the sting, leaning into Eddie as if he’s the only thing that can keep him upright. Eddie can feel Buck’s breath ghosting his skin, the sheen of sweat on his forehead soaking through Eddie’s thinned out gray t-shirt.
