Etho tries to remember how it’d felt to wander far without the strangest tugging at his navel and to exist without being force-fed someone else’s emotions. Like the wiring of Joel’s heart and brain both have a direct override, wiring directly tangled among Etho’s. And no amount of tinkering can separate the mixed signals.

“You said you’re dating Ren,” said Pearl, pointing her finger directly at Mumbo. The words sank in like a crossbow bolt; he imagined himself dissolving into code particles and respawning far away. But to his surprise, the pointing finger kept going, landing on Ren: “And you said you’re going with Skizz.”
And when Mumbo thought she was done, she doubled down, pointing behind them at Skizz: “And he said he was going with nobody.”
“What’s the truth, you three?”
Mumbo tried to speak, but the only sound he could muster was a squeak. He could feel Ren’s eyes on him, blue as the glacial water they’d waded through to get here.
Skizz surprised him by stepping forward and wrapping an arm around each of them, pulling them flush against his side and into the canopy of his wings. His hand settled on Mumbo’s back like it belonged there; and he smiled like it was the easiest thing in the world. “Aww, you guys. You should’ve told me we were telling people!”

Legundo held him fast although he writhed, looking down through those dark lenses. Owen could not see his own reflection in them— vampires did not have reflections. But he saw the red moon, and the black forest, and it looked like eyes.
"I find you very fascinating Owen. As I said, I've traveled very far and seen many things, but you're a bit of an oddity. Goldsmith, now there's a dime a dozen. If I had an obol for every noble vampire with a penchant for massacre, why, I'd be a very rich man."
Legundo sounded conversational. The bastard was as strong as a granite cliff side— Owen yanked as hard as he could and although Legundo's mouth pursed with effort, there was no breaking loose. Owen was smaller, and weak from hunger besides.
"I had hoped to study your sire, Louis," and Owen had to acknowledge the fear now, ice cold in his stomach where the hunger nested with it. "But it seems he is no longer with us. You have my condolences, of course—"
"Shut your fucking mouth," Owen snarled, and then screamed in fury when Legundo sighed, and started pressing Owen down to the ground.

Four months Tango has known Jimmy; simultaneously a lifetime and a single breath. Two months ago, in Rain’s Hand, the Dovahkiin made clear his intention to join the Stormcloaks. Jarl Balgruuf of Whiterun joined the Imperials. Jimmy is not barred from Whiterun—the entire guard force couldn’t keep him out if this was where he wanted to be—but it should mean that they can’t see each other like this.
