Here's what we know: Regulus Black, after years of slow separation from his popular, effervescently Gryffindor brother, died a slow drowning death, alone and friendless and forgotten.
Here's what we know: Severus Snape lost his only friend in a moment of humiliated, misdirected, anger and spent the rest of his life closed-off and spiteful, hating himself- his life - his job - his decisions - but with no choice but to drudge drearily onward, to honor Lily's last sacrifice.
But. What if.
In this universe, an alternate and dazzlingly parallel world, Lily Evans, a girl who has fought and raged and will not fucking lose her best friend to the capricious smiles and dazzling arrogance of the blood-purists looks over, glances, really, at a table hung with green and silver, meeting gray eyes with her own poison-green.
I wonder, Lily thinks, alight with hatred for James Potter and something else; maybe, Lily thinks, and pulls Regulus Black from the depths.
So spirals a bifurcation. So springs our story.

Summary
Not long after London, Andy tells her that time stretches out for them, that she'll end up marking it differently.
Nile doesn't really understand it, and lets it slide to the back of her thoughts as she begins to get used to her new life. She wakes up one day and Joe passes over an envelope to her from the sheath of junk mail scooped up in his hands, “From Copley.”
The freelancer is true to his word and sends a copy of the letter delivered to her family reporting that Nile Freeman was killed in action. She carries it with her for a few weeks, tucked in her jacket pocket, until it feels a little lighter as they circle back around to Andy’s cave. She puts it in a plastic tupperware box and leaves it beside the Rodin statue and a trunk full of old swords.
She dithers a few times later that night, and then buys herself a burner phone, walking back to the hotel slowly while counting off the time difference on her fingers.

"A second chance,“ Death said.
Harry stopped in front of a bench and turned to look at the being. "A second chance at what?"
"Life."
Harry laughed bitterly. "Because that has worked out so great the first time?"
Death tilted its head. "You've changed," it stated.
"Life does that to you," Harry said and his mind felt clearer than ever, "Or should I say the last seven years. I never really left this place, have I? I lived a life feeling not quite dead and not alive either," he spat.
"I know how you feel," Death said after a moment, grinning.
"Oh, do you," Harry retorted and pierced Death with a look.
The being's smirk widened as it leaned closer.
"Bored."
Years after the war, Harry Potter lives an apathetic life. When Death offers him a second chance he takes it.
Accompanied by the being, Harry travels back to the summer before Sirius dies. Inside his younger body and the memories of an older self, Harry realizes that being connected to Death may have twisted his morals a little more than expected.
Seeking to make up for the boredom of past years, Harry isn't above carving his own space between two sides to even out the playing field.
