Summary
Reki has spent his whole life just trying to survive, too scared to show emotion or cry around the people who made lock it all away. Running away should’ve been easy if it meant freedom—right? But, unfortunately for him (and because I like writing angst), the past isn’t so easy to escape. Taken in by Kaoru and Kojiro, he struggles to accept the care they offer, haunted by the fear that it’ll all be ripped away. As he fights to suppress the pain of his past, his body begins to fail him, and he starts to spiral. But no matter how much he tries to lock it all away, the truth is catching up to him. And when it does, will he finally let himself break—and maybe, just maybe, be saved?
Or: "When I looked in the mirror, I didn't see anything but a “me” staring back. Everything looked normal, my eyes, my face... There wasn't even a trace of what happened. No one will notice. They never do."

After their argument in episode 7, Reki and Langa never made up or apologized to each other, their mutual love for skateboarding dimming over the years as their mutual love for each other dissipated as well.
Reki moved to a different class, shutting himself off from the world as Langa kept getting more and more popular, yet never feeling an ounce of happiness unless he saw the redhead in the halls, knowing that he was now unreachable.
However, after all this time of separation and longing, college seems to bring new experiences and old friends, as Reki finds out that his roommate is... WHO?!

“Kaoru,” Nanjo started, this sappy, sweet smile on his face as he started, flowers held out to the man in question who raised an eyebrow over the frame of his glasses. “We’ve known each other our whole lives, and I’ve always thought we could be something so special. Would you do me the greatest honour of being my date to the dance?”
For a moment, there was silence, bar from the whimsical music emanating from the speaker.
It seemed like everyone was waiting for the answer, not looking away as if they’d miss it— but Reki already knew what Sakurayashiki would say. Maybe it was the look in his eyes, or the small smile tugging at the corner of his lips, or maybe it was something else entirely, but there was no doubt in his mind that Sakurayashiki would say yes.
He was right, of course. “I would love to.”

Reki was born with fire powers-- he was lucky in that area. He was not that lucky, however, because his body physically could not handle him using his powers above a certain level. Even despite his exceptional control. However, after a chance encounter with Langa Hasegawa on the streets-- and later again in his school made to channel student's powers-- it seemed like his luck was turning around.
Little did he know, trouble can find you anywhere. Whether it be in your best friend's past, the lives of your teachers, or within yourself-- and the ability you may not realize you have.
May the flames light up your path-- and guide those around you.

Langa pushes himself onto me, holding onto me tightly and nuzzling his head into the creek of my neck. His hand moves in slow circles on my thigh, and even if I'm so scared right now, I feel like I'm dripping into a serene state. The noise outside going down the drain, all I can hear is Langa's muffled, shaky breathes and quiet humming. "I wish you could see how much I care for you... I feel like it's too late to say this but I need you Reki... Please?"
All I can do is wish I had never met him.

Langa just moved to Okinawa yet he's slowly becoming an icon and mini celebrity in his area due his breath-taking angelic looks. Reki on the other hand, had no friends after formally being a social butterfly. All Langa wants right now is to be with Reki, who he thinks is the coolest person ever.
Unbeknownst to Reki of course, who thinks Langa has something weird against him.

Kaoru always enjoyed tinkering, designing and creating things. He was artistic and analytic by nature, having always begged for things like robotics kits, or paintbrushes since the moment he could talk. It was simply for fun, of course, many people told him he wouldn’t get far with this, but he didn’t care. He’d spend school productions in the woodwork classrooms helping create staging, or in the lighting box adjusting angles and colour hues like it were nothing.
Right now, though, what he did didn’t need any purpose. It was just for him. So, he sat on the curb outside Dope Sketch – alongside a blade for grip tape, boxes from what he bought, and a collection of paint pens and quick-dry protection - whilst humming along to some music in his headphones, doing his thing, until...
