Summary
Dick’s blood froze as he stared at the advancing man in numb horror. The panic from before curdled into something colder—dread. Terror. His throat clamped shut like a vice, air catching halfway up his windpipe. His muscles locked so tight it felt like invisible hands were squeezing the life out of him—the truth settling over him like a cold, suffocating weight.
This man wasn’t Zucco. The Captain wasn’t here, and Dick had woken up in an unfamiliar bed.
Bile rose in his throat.
There was only one explanation.
He had been sold.
And the man in front of him... was his new owner:
The Batman.
(in other words, Bruce is an emotionally constipated pirate who finds a small, terrified mer and thinks yeah, i should adopt him.)

Wally never expected to come back to Happy Harbor. Not after his near drowning in the sea caves by his childhood home — which inevitably led to his parents’ divorce. But here he was twelve years later, fresh out of grad -school and moving back into his late father’s old house.
A summer spent in the sleepy town he grew up in on the Rhode Island coast should have been idyllic. A quiet three months working in his uncle’s aquarium as he figured out what the hell he wanted to do with his life. But, it turns out, finding a siren tangled in a fishing net at the bottom of the bay would only be the beginning of his troubles.
What happened to the poor Nereid who now haunted Wally’s thoughts? Why couldn’t he shake the feeling that their fates were more tangled than the net he’d cut away from its beautiful tail? And who was the so-called expert called in by the counties Game-Warden to investigate the new predator making waves in the Rhode Island Sound?
The further Wally dug, the deeper the mystery took him — and someone had swim to the bottom of it.
Good thing Wally has his diving license.

Just that moment a something popped out of the water, catching Jason so off guard he couldn’t finish his sentence.
What they saw was a human head..a human face…but different.
Jason immediately thought this was person was probably the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.
Silky black hair, magnifying ocean blue eyes, smooth tan skin, pouty pink lips, sharp jawline, and sky blue scales that matched his (?) eyes, scattered along his shoulders.
But what really drew Jason into was the scent the omega (Mermaid? Merman? Siren?) had, this scent that was like cool ocean freshness layered with a faint warmth, a barely-there sweetness that feels alive, not perfumed. Something in the scent promises safety and mystery to Jason.

Summary
With a gurgled scream he's tossed back into the ocean. The waters rush to embrace their stolen child, but now, instead of their enclosure being a comfort, it's suffocating.
He thrashes, desperate, trying to swim but... but he can't.
Panic and fear washes over him as he slowly starts to sink to the bottom of the ocean floor, a trail of blood flowing from the spots his fins were supposed to be.
He's a shark mer. He needs his fins to swim, but... but they're gone. Taken. Stolen. Sawed away by those monsters. His fins... are gone.
Dick lets out a terrified shrill as he sinks down, down, down.... drowning.
For years he's been told to stay clear of the monsters above the ocean. Been told how there were humans that wouldn't hesitate to tear his fins off his body. But never in his life had he expected for it to actually happen to him. Now Dick's drowning, unable to move, defenseless, and... No.
No, no, no, no—
There's a something big swimming right toward him.
(OR Bruce Wayne finds a dying, de-finned shark mer and he does what anyone sensible would do: he takes him in and looks after him, all the while wondering if 26 is a bit too young to adopt.)

Bruce, who to the honor of his late father took to being a renouned doctor founding many hospitals and clinics, receeds into obscurity after the death of his last close family member, a butler who raised him after the death of his parents. Months later finds Bruce on a beach house in a small island town somewhere in the europes. He stays far from the small town, only ever venturing for food and such, and lives on his private beach. He often takes his boat out to open ocean and spends hours watching the waves and sketching. It here he sees his first glimps of them.
A mermaid springs from the water, splattering droplets as his breaks the surface tension, and lands smack in bruces little yacht. Only, it looks more like a lad then a maiden and more like child then either and oh fuck, he choking on fishing net.
Or where Bruce wishes the universe, and the lovely ghost of his parents, would very kindly stop dropping ocean children on his front door and the secrets of his beach that he was not curious about at his back door. They make no plans to listen to his silly lil request.

Dick never thought it was important to mention he was born an Atlantean. His first memories were in a tank at Haley’s circus, and he was so young when he was cursed human that’s he’s spent more time with legs than without. It’s not like he was ever a real mer anyway…
When a routine magical detox after a mission turns out to be stronger than the curse he bears, he wishes he’d told at least someone earlier, he would’ve liked to visit Atlantis under less pressuring circumstances.
OR
Dick is exposed as a merman/atlantean, gets a tour of Atlantis, and has to decide whether he’d like to face the culture and people he was stolen from, or ignore it all and return to his family on land.
