Salem's preliminary sieges have begun, and the opening battle goes bad in a BIG way. With Jaune the only one left standing (ignoring the serious injuries he really should be getting looked at), he takes it upon himself to protect his friends while they recover in the hospital.
So what if the sand in his armor seems more like rust to him? So what if the injuries in his throat make him sound decades older than he is? So what if protecting them means sliding his mental health backwards into the Rusted Knight? It's fine. He's fine. Good thing Dr. Klein is around to make sure he doesn't have to protect them alone.

It's been a month since Salem was finally defeated by team RWBY. The damage caused by Salem and her forces is still felt by the world and as everyone works towards rebuilding, team RWBY takes a much deserved break, taking the time to mourn friends, family, and figure out what the future holds for them. Weiss has plans to let everyone move into the Schnee mansion after Whitley leaves, wanting to find his own place in the world. However, things take a turn for the weird when a limousine suddenly pulls up, dropping off a woman who is wearing far too few clothes for a winter in Atlas, while also referring to herself as Weiss' "pet." Weiss finds herself thrown into a world of human and faunas trafficking that has been hiding in the shadows while the world set their eyes on Salem. With not many options available to her, Weiss takes the woman in and discovers there's an undiscovered side to herself, one that's much more dominant. Is it really okay for her to explore these feelings with this woman though?

Emerald's Semblance is all about lying, deceit. It's what allowed her to live on the streets for so long, lying and stealing to survive. Keeping her head down. People are not kind, and they are certainly not giving. Nothing is free, everything has a cost. If they can, they will take everything from you without a hint of remorse. She should know. She's a thief through and through.
That's probably why Jaune Arc baffles her so much. He gives his soul away every time he uses his Semblance. Giving it freely, healing and bolstering without a thought of what it might cost him. Even to someone he sees as his enemy. She doesn't understand it. People aren't like that. The world isn't so kind. Especially not to her.
Why then, when he and team RWBY return from the dead, is she so surprised and disturbed that it seems like his selfless giving finally took too much from him?

Ruby- not Summer, not Qrow, not anyone from a past that wasn't his own- stood there, looking worried.
