Summary
Another year of the heat not working. Well, it works sometimes. Wayne’s tried fixing it, even called a buddy of his who knows this stuff. Couldn’t figure it out.
He bought them a few cheap blankets for sleeping and found a space heater for Eddie’s bedroom, but it uses so much damn power to run, Eddie feels guilty about turning it on every night. They’ve covered the windows to avoid as much of the cold air that comes in as they can. They’ll fix it when they can afford it.
Eddie’s sick, and Wayne insists he has to keep the space heater on. He still shuts it off every couple of hours, but Wayne doesn’t notice it.
The shivering is constant whether the heater is on or not, anyway.

The hospital, like the city, is larger than anticipated. Steve had traveled to about every corner of the US by the age of thirteen, tried every fine wine over the price of several thousands by sixteen, followed his parents from the edge of Cancún to the center of Denmark in the summer by eighteen. And yet- he found himself staring openly at the building before him, feet planted firmly in the middle of the parking lot as if he’d never seen something so utterly huge, so daunting.
Twenty five stories, curved wide around him into what he could only describe as half an arena, towering, waiting for him to dare to come and fight for what was rightfully his- something he had never asked for in the first place. His life.
There’s cars coming and going- patients, families, doctors and nurses going home and some just starting their days paying no mind to him at all. Flowing around him like an everyday obstacle, like it was no surprise for some sick kid to be gazing upward in what might be awe, what might just be fear.

“Go back to the couch,” Steve told him. “Lie down.”
He felt Eddie shake his head against him. “Not without you.” His voice was thick through his clogged nose.
Steve was quiet for a moment, apart from the wheezing of him trying to breathe. “Wanted to make you soup,” he murmured eventually. “But I’m so fucking tired, and now it’s gone everywhere and I gotta clean it up and I just want to go to bed.” Steve was almost whining now, and he squeezed the edge of the bench in embarrassment.

Eddie rolls over with a groan. He feels awful. He can’t breath out of his nose, there’s so much pressure in his head he feels like it might explode and his throat feels like he swallowed a cup of razors. He lets out a truly pathetic whimper, the sound catching in his throat as it turns into a cough. He stretches his arm out, feeling around for Steve and is met with cold, empty sheets. He whines again and finally pries his eyes open.

Steve’s sick state is…well, less than ideal. Eddie loves him to bits and pieces, but man is his husband a miserable thing when he gets ill. Like a desperate wet cat in a thunderstorm. Mewling and rolling about and picky to a fault. So, Eddie did the logical thing (admittedly, the dumbest), he took care of Steve. Hand fed him spoonfuls of soup. Draped a washcloth on his heated forehead. Changed out his puke bucket. Ran lukewarm baths and did the laundry and tucked Steve in and kissed his forehead and…ran himself dry.The karma is Eddie gets sick now."

Turns out: Eddie under the influence comes in a variety of flavors.
High Eddie is languid, touchier than normal which is fucking saying something, and weirdly philosophical.
By comparison: Drunk Eddie's a lovelorn bastard, a little teary with it sometimes, always clingy and a touch extra possessive, and sappier than he gets on even his most sappy days. Once he told Steve that no, he couldn’t let him go take a piss because, and Steve remembers to the word: there’s stardust in my body that’s in your body and that shit’s like magnets, Stevie, like magnets or whatever so my heart’s like pulled to your heart and if you go away without me ever you’ll rip my heart out—because like, kind of declaration sticks with you.
Drunk or not.
But then there’s third flavor, a specific one: and that’s medicated Eddie. And that Eddie, cough-medicine-soaked-to-the-gills?
He’s an adorably giggly little fuck, s'what he is.

“Edward, I told you we needed to stock up on groceries before that blizzard hits! The weather man says we might be snowed in for up to two days…”
It’s winter time in Hawkins, Indiana, and the forecast shows for a chance of a winter blizzard. All residents should be kept inside and hunker down in preparation for the winter storm, but Eddie can’t do that. His uncle has just called him, asking if he’s made the rounds to gather groceries and supplies needed for the big storm, but it’s pretty obvious he’s forgotten to do the one thing his uncle has asked him to do.
Wanting to make up for his mistake, Eddie risks his life to make things right and get those groceries. But problems arise when the blizzard comes much faster than Eddie had expected. Now, he’ll have to survive Hawkins first ever major snowstorm, and make it back to his uncle before hypothermia has other plans.(Or Eddie forgets to get groceries his uncle had asked him to retrieve before a huge snowstorm hits Hawkins, and Eddie risks his life to get them, nearly dying of hypothermia and frostbite in the process. Maybe two faithful people will save him from dying? Who knows? Have fun!🤭)
