Tears are falling faster down Mike’s cheek now. He squeezes his eyes shut, attempting to stop them. His breathing is going shallower, and a panicky feeling is starting to overwhelm him, when he feels Will’s hand touch his shoulder.
“Mike,” Will says, trying to make eye contact.
Mike tries to slow his breathing, tries to listen to the soothing sound of his boyfriend's voice, but something in him is still unable to meet his boyfriend's eyes.
“Mike, will you please look at me?” Will tries again, gently.
After a moment, Mike lifts his gaze. Ebony eyes meet Hazel.

With Will’s hand moving tenderly over his unhappy stomach, Mike was reminded very suddenly of the description of sheep bloat in Far from the Madding Crowd. Mike hoped Will knew some special technique to sort this out. Maybe a quick jab with a hollow reed would work on humans, too. Mike wondered if Will knew that being Gabriel Oak was sexy in Mike’s nausea-addled mind. And in his normal mind, to be honest, though Max (and El and Nancy and – shut up) would probably say that was addled already. But Will would make a good shepherd, Mike thought, without any detailed knowledge of the profession. He’d be gentle with the animals. Take care of them. Never let a single one get lost. A vision of Will sitting criss-cross in a barn, bottle-feeding a lamb that was cushioned by his ample belly floated across Mike’s imagination –

He held a bouquet of what looked like paper flowers in one hand. "Hi," Will said quietly in that stupidly pretty voice, beaming at Mike.
“You look really good,” Mike blurted in response. They’d been together for three months now, but the sight of Will still left Mike flustered and blushing.
