His golden eyes are warm and open, inviting her to be honest. To lay it all out, here and now, confess the feelings that have been swirling in her head for the last few days (or weeks, if she’s being honest).
'I never got the chance to thank you for saving my life. Nobody’s ever jumped in front of lightning for me before. You could’ve died, and it made me realize just how much I care about you. The world needs you, I know, but so do I.'
Instead, she buries those words and finds other ones. Easier ones.

Summary
Zuko falls to Azula's lightning, and Katara realizes she doesn’t want him to die. She doesn’t want anyone to die, but she especially doesn’t want him to die. Sometimes she thinks he’s the only one who understands, when the others are laughing and goofing off. What it’s like to have to try to be fun, to remind yourself that you’re just a kid too.
(And how stupid and typical of him to die this way, sacrificing himself for her.)
There’s not much else to do (she knows, she’s considered anything else she could possibly do). Katara pushes up her sleeves and sets to work saving his life.

Katara heals Zuko after the Agni Kai and things go... wrong.

"Do you mind keeping this secret between us?" She lifted her head to look at him. Two blue crystals, clearer than the water in the Arctic Ocean. They consumed him instantly. Katara could have made her words sound like a threat - as she did every time she spoke to him. But it wasn't the tone nor the volume that gave it away. It was that one word that made the difference.
Us.
There was no ‚us’ between her and Zuko. There never had been. To hear her say that they were part of something together … why did that thought make his stomach feel so strange?
"No, I don't mind," he replied simply. He sounded unimpressed, but it was raging in his head. Change was in the air, as heavy and thick as the steam from a hot spring.
He couldn't see it with his eyes, but he could feel it.

Zuko finally joined Team Avatar at the Southern Air Temple and has yet anything but arrived. Most of the group members still don’t trust him. Especially one particular waterbender that watches his every move.
One day, Zuko discovers a secret hot spring inside the tempels. It becomes his sanctuary – a place just to himself. Or so he thought.

Summary
After saving a dying Earth Kingdom village and sparking their romance, Katara and Zuko reunite on Ember Island. This is a light (little to no actual plot) one-off continuation of my previous work, “The Warmest Waters.” I aimed to write this in a way that you do not need to read the earlier entry in the series to enjoy (it obviously will add context but isn't required).
It includes domestic bliss vibes, a lot of banter, spice, and further Zutara development. If you just want the spice, it’s in each of these two chapters!
This series is canon-divergent after the 100 Year War, and takes place ~15 years later. All characters are aged up to their 30s. As noted by the tags, the series primarily centers on Katara/Zuko, though other characters will return in future one-offs as Katara navigates various estranged relationships with people in her life.
