Summary
MK dies during the fight with the Lady Bone Demon and wakes up again a few days before he takes the Monkey King's staff and really becomes the Monkie Kid.
He's now determined to fix everything that went wrong without getting his friends involved and hurt in any of it. So he tries to handle it all alone and it'll absolutely start to all fall on top of him and crush him at some point. But for now, just watch him try and figure this out without anyone else getting in his way.

The lion tenses, but he does not pounce.
The prince holds it out in front of him, then drops it with a clatter.
Emotions dance across Azure’s face. Anger, rage, fear, confusion, all before balancing back into a controlled frown.
“I do not wish to fight you, Azure.” The prince announces loudly, so that his words cannot be misinterpreted.
“Then why are you here, Lotus Prince ?” He tries to keep his voice neutral, but there’s clear venom.
“Because you are right.”
This time he cannot mask his confusion. “What?”
“You are right about the Jade Emperor.”
Or- When Nezha has the opportunity to seize everything he's ever wanted and overthrow the Jade Emperor, he doesn't hesitate

Both MK and the Monkey King get stuck in the scroll at the start of S4. This is not a good thing. Especially when Sun Wukong has far too many secrets to hide, and more than a lifetime's worth of regrets to outrun.

Summary
The Monkey King was not who MK expected him to be.
Don't get him wrong, he didn't mean it like it was a bad thing, it's just something was off about him. While MK wasn't the best when it came to the Journey to the West and often had to ask Mr. Tang to remind him which demon was which, he knew the Monkey King, and while he might just be misremembering things, he kept catching things that didn't add up.
(AKA an AU where Wukong died instead of Macaque in the JTTW, and Macaque takes his place.)
