It was a stupid mistake. It was a mistake he made at least once a week, going to grab a fork only to realize his fingers no longer obeyed him fully when it clattered against his plate, or having to juggle a book from hand to hand before it fell from his grip, or-
He should have learned by now. He hadn’t. He didn’t think he would for another year, or ten, at least, that he could no longer rely on his hand beyond the very, very basics, on very good days.
Today was not a good day.
Or: Arthur hasn't told anyone outside of Sidney about just how bad his childhood was. This is fine, until it's not.

The kid frowns at him. Finally, slowly, he says, “Mumbo?”

“No,” Mumbo says, and Grian sinks back, groaning.

Sure, he- he might not know where he is, and he might not have his communicator, and he might be pretty certain that Pearl and Joel and Jimmy are going to think that he just left, that he chickened out, but-

Summary
Normally, Impulse wouldn’t panic. Tango sometimes leaves to go spend some time with Zedaph. Sometimes, even, he goes to visit the other mortals, the ones they’ve adopted, the ones Impulse and Tango love oh so much.
It should be fine, that Tango is gone, it shouldn’t mean anything.
But Impulse- Impulse feels like he could light a forest on fire by looking at it. He feels like he could cause torrential downpours with a flick of his finger. He feels like he is the most powerful summer there has ever been.
This isn’t normal.
“Tango?” he calls again, but his voice croaks. He knows not to expect an answer.or: The seasons are ever changing; Gods aren't meant to stay the same.

Summary
He knew what he was signing up for, when he decided to engage; if he’d seriously asked Scar and Doc, he’s pretty darn sure that they would have given his property back. Probably. Almost certainly.
He knew that they had kind of a “paranoid supernatural-buster” thing going, and he liked that! It was fun!
… It doesn’t change the fact that at random times in the day, he’ll feel eyeballs slide across his back, and it’s not the Watchers, feels nothing like them, but it’s still the sensation of being watched, and sometimes it’s a lot harder to shake off than he’d like.
Sometimes, he can’t quite stand it.

Klavier is silent. There’s not even background noise from his end of the call. Take the fucking hint, Apollo thinks hysterically. Then Klavier laughs under his breath, and Apollo's fucked, he’s absolutely fucked—“Ach, you let the cat out of the bag so soon, schatzi?”
Or: Klavier's a good friend. Good enough that he'll fake-date Apollo to protect him from Athena's wrath, even.

“-can’t see each other again,” Ilya says, looking only at Shane’s hand, holding it so, so gently and stroking over Shane’s skin so, so softly. The soothing feeling of it makes it very hard to focus, but Shane tries very hard to do it anyway. “I tried-we tried, but this can’t happen again.” It takes a moment, but Shane finally manages to make sense of the words, and he lets out a soft noise of understanding.
Ah. He’s apologizing that he won’t be able to see Shane in the hospital again before he leaves.
“I understand,” he says, and he does. It was probably really hard for Ilya to get here even once, and it can’t be very long before his plane leaves. He’s sad, of course–they didn’t even get to spend time together, really–but it’s not like this will be the last chance they ever have to see each other. He gives Ilya his best attempt at a smile, and if it comes out a little sad, too, all Ilya does is reach out to stroke the backs of his fingers gently over his cheek.
(ilya goes through with his plan to break up with shane in the hospital) (the problem? shane is too high to understand that he's being broken up with)

The doorbell rings just as Shane is finishing brushing his teeth – the first thing they rose to do, because he wants to kiss Ilya good morning – and he and Ilya exchange a confused look in the bathroom mirror. It's barely dawn, and Ilya's curls are adorably tousled from sleep as he scratches his ribs lazily, toothbrush dangling from the corner of his mouth.
Shane hesitates, then rinses his toothpaste out and runs a hand through his hair. "Fuck, it's probably anti-doping."
