Summary
“Why did you choose me?” asks Ava. She looks up at Deborah with tears caught in her eyelashes. “Why would you do that, D?”
Deborah bites her lip. There’s calculation behind her cornflower irises, her brain spinning like a roulette wheel as she tries to land on the perfect response. Eventually, she finds a truth that she feels too stripped-down, too raw to excuse away: “There was never any choice.”
OR What happens when Deborah drives Ava home after the events of S4E9 "A Slippery Slope."

“You didn’t kill my career. I did that myself. Ethan Sommers didn’t need your little confessional to Lewis. I handed him the bullets.” Her voice burned with anger, but it was aimed squarely inward.
“But it was my finger on the trigger,” Ava said, the words breaking, desperate. A tear slipped down her cheek.
Deborah stepped closer, as if she could hear every self-accusation swirling in Ava’s mind.
“You think I hate you for it. But the truth is, I hate myself more. Because I look at you and I see everything you could be, and I know this—” She gestured vaguely at the yacht, the glittering skyline, her own body in its immaculate suit. “This isn’t it.”
OR:
A rewrite of S4E10 ending. Deborah and Ava actually have the conversation they never had: sharp, messy, and finally honest.

‘‘You can’t keep doing this, D.”
‘‘Doing what?”
‘‘I’m exhausted.”
‘‘Take a number.”
Ava sighs, big fat teardrops falling down her cheeks, collecting at the base of her throat. She imagines Deborah lapping them up with her tongue, fantasizing about the liquid being bitter enough to convey what no words could.
But no matter, she tells herself. This is the last time Deborah pulls this stunt.
The last time she’s allowed to.Bookmarked by ParallelTimes7

I can't say much more than BIG WARNING! If you are triggered by talk about suicide and/or self harm then DO NOT read this story!
Story is set after second episode of season 4, so includes MINOR spoilers as well! Hurt a lot to write, because I felt depressed and very down to begin with (hurray for being prone to depression), and this somehow made it both better and worse. Helped with a happy ending though.
This story is how I imagined Ava reacting to the words "Then kill yourself" coming from Deborah. How she would spiral out of control, and go to a very bad place.

"Listen, if you can't walk, I can help you out of here."
The woman let out a dry chuckle. "Oh, really? What are you, some kind of post-apocalyptic Gen Z saint with a savior-complex?"
"Jesus," Ava muttered. This was not going well.
"Really, I want to know," the woman continued with a mocking grin. "Are out here every day helping strangers for fun, or is it just my lucky day?"
"Or," Ava snapped, "I can just walk out and let you bleed to death in this shitty casino with your clicker friends. Whatever floats your boat."
That earned her a scoff.
"This is not a shitty casino. It's the Palmetto."
~
Twenty-six years into the apocalypse, and one year after her last interaction with another human being, Ava meets Deborah.
And maybe it has something to do with the fact that Ava hasn’t spoken to anyone in a year, but there’s something about Deborah that makes her feel like there might still be some fun left in their dead world.

Summary
One year after leaving Runway, Andy Sachs' life is falling apart at the seams. Bruised and broken in more ways than one, fate delivers her, quite literally, right back into Miranda's arms when she needs her the most. Okay, maybe it wasn't fate. Maybe it was just a crack in the pavement she'd tripped over. But it was a second chance, nonetheless. She decided that day that she would, ironically, run away again. She would run away from someone who meant her harm, and run towards the only thing that mattered anymore.

“Do you, though?” Andrea asked quietly.
Miranda fought the overwhelming urge to topple over and throw up. She blinked once and, without taking her eyes off Andrea, asked, “What?”
Andrea bit down on her lip and sighed softly. “Do you like me?”
Miranda almost screamed yes. Instead, she closed her eyes and forced herself to breathe in and out slowly.
“What answer do you want?” she finally replied.
Andrea frowned slightly.
When Miranda spoke again, there was something dangerously close to pleading in her voice.
“Because I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” she said. “I don’t want to scare you away. I can manage my feelings, but I can’t lose you.”

"On the third day, Deborah Vance arrives.
She barges into Ava’s room without so much as a knock.
“Hey, quick question, what the fuck?” Ava yells around a mouthful of the world’s most rubbery buttered toast.
Deborah crosses her arms.
“This has to be the tiniest room in this hellhole, do you want me to get you moved?”
“It’s okay, D. It’s just me in here… obviously. No need for a pullout couch.”
Deborah taps her toe impatiently.
“Your neurologist is more interested in his appearance than patient care.”
“He’s fine, he knows his shit. Everybody wants to be a fucking influencer these days, doesn’t mean I’m gonna die or anything just because he wants to hit a million views.”
“Well. I’m glad I confirmed that in person.” "
