Professor Oak considered himself too old to raise a child. He had already done it once and, if somebody asked him, it was enough. He could hardly describe himself as a good parental figure, anyway, and he wouldn’t have time for a child – his work took too much of his time, and he didn’t want to change it. He didn’t mind kids, of course not, but they required supervision, care, and stability he wasn’t sure he could offer.
That’s why sitting across from one now, in his own kitchen, felt like some joke he didn’t understand.
