Summary
“T-Trust Plutarch,” Haymitch had whispered in her ear, blood spilling from his lips with every exhale, “trust Beetee.”
Of all the last words Haymitch could’ve given her, those had confused Maysilee to no end. But after Haymitch’s death, she hadn’t had time to go over what he could’ve meant by them. Then, once the Games were over, Maysilee did all she could to avoid thinking about her time in the arena. She’d almost buried the memory in her mind, but now that she’s face to face with Plutarch again, she knows she has to trust the words of a dead boy.
“Why did Haymitch trust you?” She asks.
In the dark, Maysilee can barely make out Plutarch’s raised eyebrows. “What did he tell you?”
“I asked you first.”
Plutarch huffs out something that almost could be a laugh. “That’s fair. I’ll give it to you in a nutshell then: there was a lot more going on in your Games than you might’ve realized, and Haymitch played a big role in that.”

Summary
Mike stiffens as he and Will lock eyes. Will’s eyes widen for a fraction of a second, and Mike waits for him to push Carlton off, to get up and tell Mike to get the fuck away from him.
But Will doesn’t do that.
Instead, Will holds his gaze. He keeps his eyes on Mike’s, even as Carlton’s lips move down to the juncture between Will’s neck and shoulder. Will’s breathing is heavy and he lifts his head to give Carlton more access, but he doesn’t take his eyes off of Mike.
Mike’s heartbeat drowns out everything else. He doesn’t hear the music or the other conversations going on around him. It’s just the blood roaring in his ears, and Will’s gaze freezing him in place.
There’s a look Mike has never seen in Will’s eyes before. Almost like a challenge. Carlton hits a sensitive spot and Will gasps, while Mike forgets how to breathe. His reaction must show on his face, because then Will is smirking at Mike, and Mike doesn’t have the slightest fucking clue what’s going on anymore.
or, after not talking for over a year, Mike only finds out Will moved to New York when they run into each other at a party. That's when things get complicated.

Summary
Mike chose a bad time to take a sip of his coke, and this time he can’t keep himself quiet as he chokes on the drink.
“Seems like Will might not have mentioned his heartthrob status to Mike,” Candace notes as Will pats Mike’s back.
“No,” Mike forces out, his voice hoarse. “He didn’t.”
“I didn’t think it was important!” Will defends. “Besides, they were all girls, so it’s not like I said yes to any of them.”
Mike glares. “You got asked out by four different girls?”
“Will’s the resident heartbreaker of our class,” Charlene tells him. “So many girls had their hopes and dreams shattered when they found out he doesn’t swing that way.”
And with that, another realization settles heavily into the pit of his stomach—Will might not only have been asked out by girls. If he didn’t tell Mike about breaking girls' hearts, he might also have neglected to mention going on dates with guys as well.
or, Mike finals finish before Will's, so he goes to stay with Will at his dorm before they fly back to Hawkins together for the summer. There, Mike learns they've both changed more during their first year of college than he expected.

Summary
Tomys didn’t know why he’d been brought here.
Niki had known about the competition she’d been cast in since she was old enough to speak. Quackity had known from the moment he set foot in the palace. But here Tomys was, talking to the son of the Consil without a single clue as to why.
Wilbur stared at Tomys for a moment in shocked silence. Tomys blinked, blind to the target that had been placed on his back the moment he walked through the throne room doors.
He almost felt bad for the kid.
Almost.
Nobody expects the appearance of young Tomys Ione in the political war for the crown, much less Tomys himself. Now thrust into politics, assassinations, trust, and betrayal, the fate of the kingdom lies in the choice of who will win the throne: Niki, Quackity, or Tommy.
And that choice? It lies in the hands of the young future Consil, Wilbur. Guided by his father, current Consil Phil, Wilbur must choose between loyalty, love, and power.

Wilbur is sixteen when he throws down the emancipation papers on his fathers’ desk. There is a key in his hands to the van parked out front. His bags are packed and have been for a week. His guitar is stashed in its case, hanging from his shoulders. His mind is set. This is what he wants.
He pretends it doesn’t hurt when his father doesn’t even hesitate when signing his signature in short tight loops along the line.
“That’s that then,” his father says, giving him a soft smile. Wilbur wants to punch it off his face. “I hope you will write.”
“I will,” Wilbur responds.

Before Wilbur can finish the sentence, the devil throws his head back and cackles. Raw, manic cackles that cracks in the air like lightning. Spittle flies as he whips his head down, pinning Wilbur into place with deranged eyes.
“You? Oh, lover boy, your soul ain’t worth the pot to piss in.”
