“He’s right, you know,” Wen Ning says, which is the opposite of helpful. His gaze is clear and earnest, his voice soft. “For someone that everyone seems to think is vengeful, you really don’t stick up for yourself.”
An ugly thread of hurt pulls taut behind Wei Wuxian’s ribs, and he opens his mouth to say… something, he doesn’t know, something to warn him off caring about this, since Lan Wangji apparently can’t be swayed, but Wen Ning keeps talking.
“You stick up for other people. But not yourself.” Wen Ning tilts his head, thoughtfully. “Why?”
Wei Wuxian laughs, thin and strained and without humor. “You don’t want me to answer that.”

All told, this is an AU that spans the entirety of Sandman (1989), Lucifer (2000), Lucifer (2016), and afterwards. This series collects *all* of the fics I consider to be in this AU, which means that it includes a lot of one-shots and short fics that are crosslisted in my other series, which are character-specific.
The longer fics are roughly in chronological order, but some fics jump around or take place within others, and one-shots and small ficlets are shifted downwards.

Summary
Xichen looks at his sworn brothers lying across the room. They seem so quiet. So still. He can barely believe what Wei Wuxian is saying. The rest of the world fades out as he stares.
“So what can be done?” he whispers.
“As far as I can see, we have two choices. Choice one: we destroy them completely. It would be difficult, but I think it could be done. But… it would be destroying them completely. It would mean shattering their souls.”
Xichen doesn’t feel the floor as he drops to his knees; it is just that one moment he is standing, and the next he is not. He isn’t even seeing them anymore, his eyes have unfocused, and yet they are all he can see.
Could he do it? Could he shatter their souls - destroy their very essence, prevent them from ever reincarnating, ever getting an opportunity to find peace - truly and utterly severing their link to this world and making fully certain that Xichen will never meet them again - all for the sake of the greater good?
“Choice two,” Wei Wuxian continues, “...we wake them up.”

“The young master seems quick to give up today,” comes the voice of Meng Yao from the far edge of the wooden-post fence of the grove. He’s in a set of his cold weather robes but has on a fur cloak that speaks to the fact he must’ve walked here from the main property; the exposed hills get inordinately windy this time of year.
“I honestly can’t tell if you’re teasing me or not,” Huaisang huffs. “I’ve been at this all morning.”
“Frustrating to see your quarry fly away I’m sure,” Meng Yao says, softening his voice slightly, eyes crinkling. “Although, shouting about it will hardly bring it back.”
