Phainon choked as Mydei’s eyes flicked from the drawn image of a man, to Phainon and back again.
During their off-planet trip to Planarcadia, Cipher scrounges up an interesting piece of fan-made merchandise as a gift for Mydei.

Eight months into the Kremnoan detachment’s assimilation into the city and the case of Okhemans thieving weapons from the Kremnoan detachment’s armoury seems unsolvable. The city’s laws, regulations and the sentiments of its citizens make it so.
It falls to Mydei to prevent the relationship between the two from spiralling into riots through the streets. But every avenue is a dead end. A situation that becomes more impossible the more he tries to resolve it.
The solution comes in an unexpected form, and from an unexpected source.

Summary
Phainon blinked rapidly, before huffing himself. "Oblivious about what? I should know what's wrong with you?"
"Yes." Mydei grunted. "I've given you plenty of clues but you can't smell them and don't notice them!" The protest was hot, Mydei scrambling up to stand, hands on Phainon's shoulders, only slightly taller than Phainon due to the step up into the foyer that Phainon hadn't taken.
Phainon's brows furrowed - surprised there were even tells in the first place. He really did miss them. Did that mean that Mydei had told him and he just...missed it? He could of helped him earlier? His lips pursed slightly, "Can't you just say it straight?"
"This is the furthest thing from straight." He muttered, almost reflexively before shaking his head violently. "It is mortifying because I know you...well you wouldn't want to treat this."
"What?" Phainon asked, confused. "I can treat it? Like immediately, and you suffered for three days instead of letting me help?"
Mydei has been acting weird for the past few days. Phainon is worried - especially after it takes the turn for the worst after they come home from their daily gym run.

Mydei’s mouth hardens as he rests his back against the throne, gesturing loosely at what—as far as Phainon can tell—is all of him. “This softness of yours? It’s worrisome. If something happens to me—if I’m corrupted, if the prophecy says you must go through me for the sake of Era Nova—will you be able to fulfill your promise? Or will you be too besotted to do what you must?”
Phainon’s heart sinks. “I—” His voice cracks, and he takes a deep breath. “I can do it, Mydei. I promised.”
Mydei retrieves a dagger, its blade long and wickedly sharp. He places the hilt in Phainon’s hand, closing his fingers around it. “Prove it. I challenge you to kill me three times, however you’d like. If you succeed, I will never bring this up again.”
Nausea roils in Phainon’s stomach. He’s never failed to meet a challenge Mydei issued. Has always risen to them gladly. Eagerly, even. This is an exception. He is not as prepared for it as he’d thought, despite spiraling over the possibility so many times. Worry, it seems, does not substitute for ability to perform under pressure.

Cipher had been basically stealing from this guy, Mydei, for the past two years, ever since she had stuck to him like glue during their first year of college. Because he was loaded, and because Cipher was broke, he basically paid for her everything. But she actually did care about him, so she did feel bad about all the money that he had put into her for the past few years. But, there was no way in Hell Cipher could afford to pay back all of that money. So, she decided to pay him back with something else.
Why doesn't she just set him up with the love of his life?!
In other words, Cipher gets a job for once in her life and drags Mydei to apply with her just so that he could run into a silver-haired man she had briefly passed by on their college campus.

“How convenient,” Mydei said and Phainon realised his mistake, that Mydei hadn’t relinquished his grip but merely slackened it, when another, softer tug at his coat rocked him back onto his heels. “Aglaea really thinks of everything.”
“What—“ Phainon laughed but it was too high and thin, flustered, so he cleared his throat to steady himself even as his cheeks burned. “What is this about?”
“These,” Mydei answered, most unhelpfully, with another sharp pull that tightened the fabric of Phainon’s coat around his stomach and waist. His breath stuttered in his chest for another reason entirely. “The handholds. You have a metal ring. And a matching one on the other side.”
Phainon learns of a unique feature on his coat in the worst possible way: he has an… inappropriate reaction in the middle of Marmoreal Marketplace when Mydei tugs a bit too hard.
Neither of them have a problem with this.

Summary
Phainon is so taken aback—so busy processing the flutter in his stomach and the surge of heat in his groin—that Mydei easily tackles him to the ground. The prince bleeds on him profusely and shoves a knee between Phainon’s legs, pressing his adrenaline-hardened cock against Phainon’s thigh. His weight is solid and unyielding. Phainon goes dizzy, not as a side effect of the fall, but from several abrupt realizations in quick succession: one, that this is most assuredly romance in its highest form, and two, that it’s a distraction he can’t afford.
He shakes his head clear, reclaims the ground he’d lost, and holds out for seven more days against the prince until they collapse together, exhausted, and agree that it counts as a win for them both. Mydei joins the Flame-Chase, Okhema admits the Kremnoans, and Phainon goes to Aglaea—for who better to go to with a romantic problem of this magnitude than his teacher, his handler, the demigoddess of Romance herself?

“Hello there,” Phainon greets softly. He crouches down, inching closer. Mydei doesn’t budge, only tenses like a tightly coiled spring. “My name is Phainon. You’re Mydeimos, right?”
Mydei doesn’t respond, lips pressed tightly shut. Phainon’s smile wavers, chest squeezing tight.
“No one’s going to hurt you here,” he murmurs, extending his arm out. Mydei growls. Fear flashes through his eyes for a fleeting second, but it’s enough to have Phainon freezing in place, breath catching in his throat.
(A mishap at the Abyss of Fate leaves Mydei a child whose only memories are of the Sea of Souls.)

Phainon stops entirely. His eyes widen. Mydei’s hands twitch at his sides. He holds Phainon’s gaze, jaw clenched and body wound like a spring, watching Phainon swallow—Adam’s apple bobbing.
“What?” he breathes, the word cracking at the end.
Mydei takes a deep breath.
“I love you,” he repeats. “I offer my body and soul to you—my equal in every way, the one worthy to stand beside me. Across thirty-three million cycles, my affections for you have never changed. If our old promises during every one of those cycles still continue to mean something to you as well, then I intend to honor them starting today—if you will let me.”
(Mydei and Phainon get together. As it turns out, that’s the easy part.)

“You know, if you want, I could help. Aedes Elysiae was a farming village, and when I was a child I woke up early every single morning to help with just this sort of thing.” He tugs at Mydei’s nipple again, coaxing out another spill of liquid.
Mydei’s hand flies up to grip Phainon’s, pulling it back, and Phainon whines at the denial. “Did you just compare me to livestock, haikas?”
