“There was a fire. At the mall. I worked there? At Scoops Ahoy.”
The way he says the last part sounds strange, like it’s really important somehow that Eddie believes him.
“Okay,” he says, then adds, “Is that why you look like that?”
Eddie’s never met a fire with fists, but he wants Steve to tell him what happened—not just assume.
There’s a beat of silence, like Steve’s weighing his options, and Eddie knows a lie’s coming before Steve even opens his mouth.
“Yeah. Building caved in. We made it out—Robin and I. Paramedics checked me over and said I couldn’t drive, so I decided to walk.”
Almost ten miles, Eddie estimates. Sure. Totally normal thing to do in the middle of the night, battered and bruised, after escaping a fire.
But he’s pretty sure that’s all he’s going to get, so he settles on, “Good thing I came along, then.”
“Yeah.”

Summary
The woods are a labyrinth. Nothing makes sense; every right takes him left, pathways are there and the next minute they're gone, he’s running in circles. All the while, Vecna’s taunts echo in the wind.
“Where do you think you’re going? Aren’t you tired of running?”
He is. He really fucking is. Still, Steve only runs impossibly faster no matter how much it burns his lungs. It’s not like it matters anyway, it’s not like he’s getting anywhere.
Then, to his shock, and panic, he hits something solid. But all that panic is drowned out by pure relief. Because there is no monster in front of him, no dog, no ugly bat or tendrils of vines. It’s Eddie fucking Munson.

Everybody is a little quieter but Mike isn't showing any signs of deppression which I know was like a legitimate concern. “I don’t owe you a favor,” he replied immediately, although he had a sinking feeling that he did. It sounded familiar.
“I recall you agreeing to the bet a while back that you didn’t think the kids considered you a part of their group,” she reminded him. The smirk hadn’t left her face. “And after the whole… moving in with the Byers thing, it’s definitely been proven that you’re a part of their group. I dare you to say that you’re not in front of them.”

He was in the middle of a sentence, i the middle of a transaction behind the register when his eyes drifted up towards the ceiling and his voice trailed off. His jaw shifted around and he chewed on his tongue.
It was like he was completely vacant.
It lasted a few seconds, and he snapped back in, finishing his sentence and continuing the transaction like nothing happened.-

But pulling over Max Mayfield driving her brother’s Camaro at the ripe age of thirteen was pretty insane. Sure, kids will be kids and kids will be crazy. Until Steve Harrington crawled out of the backseat, clutched his knees and horror-movie hurled blood all over his boots and shit got crazier.
That took it from a minor concern to oh, fuck. Callahan has to take this kid to a hospital.

“Steve?” Eddie interrupts again. Steve casts a glance in his direction, but Eddie is looking past him at the television with hazy eyes.
“Yeah, I’m here.” Steve jostles his foot gently and gestures for the doctor to continue talking about fluid levels. By fluid, he’s pretty sure she just means blood. The blood that Eddie was coughing up, he figures. It had to go somewhere, so they must’ve drained it the same way they drained all the leaking air from Max’s lung. Maybe. He hopes Eddie’s uncle gets this stuff better than he does.
“Don’t you live in Loch Nora?” Eddie asks just as the doctor is opening her mouth to speak again. Steve builds up to a sigh, unsure how exactly to tell Eddie to shut up when it’s not even his fault that he can’t, before he realizes Eddie’s gaze is still glued to the TV.

There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.

His head is nodding, and his eyes are watery, and Eddie has approached him like a spooked animal.

Summary
Three shots ring out.
Steve hears them before he feels them; a warm, wet pain burning in his torso, intolerably excruciating.
There’s a bundle of squawks and screams, outbursts of panic and anger, and it’s only when Hopper falls forwards to take Steve up into a slightly rough, protective hold, does he realize that two of those shots have lodged themselves in his own flesh and bone. (Realizes that he’d moved, instinctively, to shield El, despite never having spoken to her, who’d the gun had been so precisely pointed at, aimed for.)
Steve Harrington watches his own blood pool and trickle over a series of hands pressed against him, small and large, soft and rugged, and for a moment, wants to stay like this. He can’t.

Kamado’s lips thin. “It’s a good thing I’m not a slayer, then, Tomioka-san.”
Or; Tomioka Giyuu and the Kamado siblings meet under snowfall, air rancid with blood, teeth gnashing and metal gleaming. Hatchet in trunk, hand in hand, they descend the mountain together.
Alternatively; Where Tanjirou does not become a slayer, and Giyuu is the one to take him and his sister in.
