Mike’s lips rested against Will’s head, brushing against his hair gently. His arms clung to Will’s sides as he started to tremble. The way his hands felt against Will’s body felt foreign after so long apart. It was so odd to think they hadn’t seen each other in over a year.
“It’s– It’s my dad. He’s dead, Will. He’s gone.”
“I’m so sorry,” Will said as they pulled apart slightly, glancing up to study Mike’s face. “What happened?”
“It was a heart attack. I just thought I should tell you in person, you know. Since I’m not sure you’d get a letter if I sent it, anyway. Plus, I just wanted to see your face again. It’s been so long. Too long.”

Basically, Mike Wheeler fumbled Will Byers... like really, really bad in season 5! Or well, Ross duffer got a divorce so I'm doing what he could not and writing post-canon byler. It's a slow burn cause I'm trying to keep everything as canon compliant as possible!!
NOTE: I was originally gonna keep this super compliant and keep Jane dead, but it doesn't really change the plot of this fic that much and she didn't deserve that fuck-ass, misogynistic, lazy writing ending, SO for this fic... Jane Ives, my daughter, lives YAY.
