Then, a smile pulled slowly at the corner of his mouth. A laugh followed, thin, barely audible, weak and disbelieving.
“Oh…That’s…That’s not fair.” The Doctor chuffed, turning to face the voice.
He blinked and rubbed his eyes. She was standing in the doorway of the TARDIS, wearing a pink zip-up hoodie, her hair parted cleanly down the middle. Her shadow loomed eagerly behind her, cascading across the TARDIS’ wall. Everything was right. Too right. Too real. It unnerved him, and he began to convince himself that it was just a hallucination, something the TARDIS was producing to calmly guide him to an inevitable darkness.
And yet? There she was, standing there like she always did when she was about to say something clever. Just as he predicted.
