Charles tried to pay attention, because Edwin was really upset, and Charles still didn’t understand why, and it seemed like this might be important. It was just, they’d been at this for a while, and Edwin kept asking him the same questions and not leaving him time to answer, so. His mind may have wandered a bit to how he would reinforce the next cricket bat.
His attention snapped back to the present when Edwin said, “This can’t happen. You can’t risk this, I can’t be the reason you risk it. You have to move on.”
“Move on?” Charles repeated blankly. “Move on from what?”
“From here, Charles!” Edwin shouted, suddenly furious again, suddenly shouting even though his eyes were filled with tears. “You have to go with Death! You have to leave!”
“I don’t want to go with Her,” Charles said, nonplussed.
“Fine, that’s your business, but you can’t keep hanging around me!” Edwin snapped.
Charles’ world suddenly tilted on its axis, sending everything askew. “I can’t?” he asked, his voice small, his heart wide open and exposed.Series

Summary
After saving Eddie from the Upside Down, Steve hides him at his house while the party concocts a plot to clear Eddie's name. What Steve doesn't expect is how much he likes hanging out with Eddie as they get to know each other.
Under the looming shadow of the Mind Flayer threatening to destroy Hawkins, Steve and Eddie realize they're each grappling with their own darkness, from Steve's father's impossible expectations to Eddie's feelings of worthlessness.
Their friendship develops into something more even as the party prepares to fight Vecna and his monsters one last time. Steve must decide if he's ready to shrug off the rigid roles assigned to him and become his own person. Eddie must learn to embrace what Steve has been trying to show him every day since nearly dying: that he's worth saving.
Author's Note: This is basically me speculating what Season 5 might look like, with Eddie surviving and from Steve's perspective. Enjoy!

“Because-” Eddie started flailing his hands around a moment, “-I've had this dream since fucking 6th grade that Richie would ask me out.”
Beverly stared at him sympathetically then and opened her mouth to say something.
“You can ask him out first,” Stan interrupted, pointing out, “-and then he can ask you out. Simple.”
“It's not-”
“I get it, Eddie,” Mike followed, maybe trying to break up fucking… Stan, “-he's been flirting with you for so long, you just want to see him execute on it.”
“Yes, yeah,” Eddie sighed, running a hand through his hair, “-it's kinda fucked up if I have to finally do it.”
“Well,” Bev pursed her lips (cherry red, it was kinda her signature thing) like she was thinking, “-why don't you just kick it up a notch?”
Or Eddie is stubborn and wants Richie to make the first move (Beverly has a solution).

He’s cut off by a shower of daisies, the large, long-stemmed ones they put out in the shops for early spring.
“Aw.” Charles picks one up between thumb and index finger, turning it in his hand. “That’s pretty. D’you know, whatever’s making this happen, I feel like it honestly means well with us.”
Edwin isn’t listening. When Charles looks at him, he’s paler than normal, his jaw set in that not-at-all-good way.
“Please excuse me,” says Edwin, and walks straight into their mirror.(A teacup appears in the office, Edwin blushes a significant number of times, and Charles copes normally with being visibly showered in affection.)

They’ve been working it out slowly in the two months since that awful night—it being something romantic, something that’s quite frankly more than dating, yet not all that different in shape from what existed before.
Point is, as much as Charles loves Crystal, a little time just for him and Edwin had sounded…nice. And probably needed. Except now she won’t be back until Thursday.
Which is fine. Totally fine. No outside rescue just means that they have to save themselves, that they have to figure this out solo—the two of them against the world, just like old times.
Nothing ever went wrong back then.

"You can't just tell someone you've been in love with them since you were fucking eight years old, and-" Eddie continued, ranging closer (Richie could see that he was pointing a finger at him), "-and fucking run away."
"Seven," Richie instinctively corrected, and Eddie stopped on his path, he could see his fuzzy features change (into what? He had no fucking clue), "-we met when I was seven."
He could see his mouth shift, he couldn't really identify what, before he spoke, "You didn't fucking love me as soon as you met me, jackass-"
"Ya ever heard of love at first sight, Eds?" Richie cracked back, but it was too genuine to be funny.

The sun finishes its descent, clouds stained deep wine purple and fading rose pink.
Zagreus breathes out slowly, not quite a sigh but deeper than a usual exhale.
“That was different from it rising,” he admits. “I don't know if it was entirely your intent, but this has all been quite romantic, Hypnos. A handcrafted shore? A day of fishing? The sunset? Aphrodite would be impressed, if not worried you're going to put her out of a job.”
“I don't need to impress her,” Hypnos says dismissively, “just you.”
(Technically an epilogue to my other work, Sleep Schism, but also absolutely can be read as a standalone. In fact, I encourage it; Schism is rather long, but this is probably the perfect little fix most people are looking for- much more bite sized.)

The man lets him go with force, Five topples to his side and lays unmoving for several seconds. The suit steps over him like a log, stalking toward her with a gleeful smile. “We’ll start with her,” he says cheerfully.
