This all started when I was walking home from taking pictures with Santa Claus with my 9-year-old. He likes to do ‘what ifs.’ That day he was daydreaming and wondering about what it would have been like to be the first person who ever felt sad or happy.
Out of that I apparently decided to stick our beloved boys in a type of Garden-of-Eden type situation, and have them discover existence together. I stole the first line from the christian bible because it’s a fantastic line, but neither this fic nor this author is in any way religious. Remember, it’s Adam and Steve, not Adam and Eve.
(The second part of the christian scriptures, the new testament, also starts with an annoyingly good sentence. ‘In the beginning was the word, and the word was with god, and the word was god.’ I mean–if we’re saying words, which make up fics, are a deity, I’m happy to worship them above and beyond any of the traditional pantheon. Come join me?)

Summary
For fans of Heartstopper AND of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, a collection in which our favorite couple Nick and Charlie are cast as Victorian consulting detectives a la Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Dr. Nelson and Charlock Spring fall hard and fast for one another and Dr. Nelson soon finds himself entangled in some of Spring's most baffling (and perilous) cases. The individual stories of the series make reference to earlier cases but are self-contained and can be read without knowing the earlier stories; there may therefore be mild spoilers if you read them out of order. knowledge of Heartstopper canon is not necessary to enjoy them (though for fans there are lots of Easter eggs in the form of canon references!).

“Oh, yes, sure! I’ll erm… I’ll send him an email when we’re done,” I say, trying to seem like the prospect isn’t far more exciting than it should be. An hour spent with the hottest faculty member in the Department? Yes, please!
Or: Oliver Spring is a PhD student and he has a bit of a thing for Dr David Nelson. What harm could one term shadowing David’s module do? Prepare for a smut-heavy slow burn, angst, fluff and a healthy dose of academia (I understand if that's not your flavour of kink).

From the Scots word for ‘seal’, a selkie was a seal who could take on human form. A common element in all the selkie-folk tales, and perhaps the most important, is that in order to shapeshift, they had to cast off their sealskins. Within these magical skins lay the power to return to seal form, and therefore the sea. If this sealskin was lost, or stolen, the creature was doomed to remain in human form until it could be recovered. The most common theme in selkie folklore is one in which a cunning young man acquires, either by trickery or theft, a selkie’s sealskin. This prevents her from returning to the sea, leaving the selkie with no choice but to marry her captor.
