Summary
Mike rolled onto his back and stared up at the ceiling. The same ceiling he'd been staring at since he was six years old, back when the only monsters he worried about were the ones in his campaigns. Back when "the Upside Down" was just a cool name for a dungeon level, not a parallel dimension that had systematically destroyed everything he cared about.
The ceiling didn't have any answers for him. It never did.
How many more until we find him? Mike wondered, not for the first time. How many more until someone doesn't come back?
He pushed the thought away. He was good at that now—identifying the thoughts that led nowhere productive and shoving them into a box in the back of his mind. Worry about Hopper getting caught by the military. Worry about the crawl system falling apart. Worry about what happened if they did find Vecna and he was still alive and angry and what if Will—
Box. Lock it. Move on.

Will raised his eyebrows at her imploringly.
Robin fiddled with her hair. “So you guys read comic books and all that nerdy shit, right?”
Lucas scoffed.
“So you know how there’s always this one supervillain with this really weird interest in the heroine?” Robin asked. “Like he thinks she’s too good for everyone else and should just… like… be with him?”
Will’s cheeks were turning a hot scarlet. “Robin–”

Summary
Their shoulders brushed again, slow and equally savored. The kind of movement you couldn't pretend was an accident.
So Will brushed back, just barely. Testing. Flirting. Mike inhaled softly, the faintest noise escaping him. And then he spoke like he was physically unable to stay silent any longer.
“Will? If… if that boy you like…” he was standing so close that Will could feel the warmth of him against the cold air. “…If you ever wanted to tell him…”
Will felt his breath stop.
“…I think he’d want to know.”
OR: A buzzy post-vol 1 fic in which Will finally grows more confident, only for the hivemind’s possession to take it all away again. Mike may be the only one who can bring it back. And the two of them might be the only ones who can save the world.

Seven years have passed since Will Byers disappeared into thin air. Seven years in which Mike Wheeler has tried to convince himself that he's a functional adult, that he's moved on, that the sleeping pills are just for university stress.
But the body doesn't forget what the mind tries to erase. And when a call in the middle of the night brings a ghost back home, Mike will discover that getting back what you lost doesn't mean it stops hurting.
