“Yes,” Ilya smiles toward the mirror, glancing at the door in it, “I’m decent.”
The door swings open to reveal an immaculate Yuna Hollander. “Better be,” she says, smiling at him as he turns to face her. “Oh, honey. You look fantastic.”
“I am not ready yet,” Ilya protests. His jacket is still on its hanger on the closet door, perfect and cream-white. He’s terrified he’s going to spill something on it. “Is Shane alright?”
Yuna checks in on Ilya before the wedding, David checks in on Shane.

“You’re flirting,” Shane says, twisting in Ilya’s hold. Ilya swats at him and he stills. “People will get the wrong idea.”
Ilya stops a laugh by kissing a trail up the side of Shane’s neck over his jugular. Shane tilts his head, seemingly unconsciously, to give him more access and Ilya sucks the skin into his mouth. Shane lets a little whine slip past his lips and Ilya knows he’s got him. “Only for you, sweetheart.”
Shane gets a little jealous sometimes.

Shane wants to figure out if he's gay before he gets drafted—and no, the way he felt when Ilya Rozanov smirked at him with a cigarette between his lips in Saskatchewan has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, the random guy he hooks up with to try and make sure one way or another takes a picture, and Shane gets outed before the draft. In the ensuing scandal, he goes seventh overall, to Ottawa.
It turns out, having the worst thing you can think of happen to you when you're seventeen years old can end up being pretty liberating. And land you an unexpected best friend.

Ilya knew, right from the very moment he met Shane Hollander, that he would never be good enough for him. He’d seemed so…pristine, when they first met. Untouched. And Ilya knew his unclean hands would only dirty him up. He’s always been selfish, though; his father used to tell him that.
So it’s no surprise, really, that Shane has finally gotten tired of it. Of him, always needing more from Shane than he deserves - always begging for more than he has earned.
Ilya would leave himself, too, if he could.
(Or, five time Ilya thought Shane would leave, and one time he knew he wasn’t going anywhere.)
