“So…” the usually bright Heather began awkwardly. “What was that?”
Heather Duke stared down at the floor, eyes burning with shame, “Heather was texting me.” There was a pause filled with the intermittent chatter of other students.
“Oooooooookay,” she blew out, more as a filler word than an actual exhale. Her breath smelled of the mints she liked to roll around in her mouth during class. “I’m assuming she skipped?” It was more of a question than a statement, but the brunette didn’t answer anyway. Her whole body was alight with the flames that only the fiery blonde could spark within her body. They longed for a heat source — Heather Duke on her own simply wasn’t enough to fuel the hungry inferno of herself.
She closed her eyes, trying her best to take a few more deep breaths. Finally, the neediness between her thighs had relinquished to a dull ache, the stiffness now momentarily departed, “She is *such* a *monster* sometimes, y’know?”
Heather McNamara chuckled, beginning conversationally, “Yeah."

Alastor's head followed the sound unconsciously, and he watched, as if the world was slowed by a magical force, as Valentino emerged from his cradle of cement and ruins with tears streaming down his face. Mouth pursed around a curse, the demon’s pupilless eyes narrowed and began to tremble, fixed at where the weapon had been a moment ago. “No. No, no, no, no!”
A cry of disbelief. Pain. Grief.
Alastor’s mind was slow and jumbled, and he did not understand the source of that grief. Until it clicked.
Right.
Vox was dead.
In which Vox catches the attention of a very powerful entity; when he perishes in the explosion of the Might of Lilith, she brings him back. But not without alterations.

Seven years after Vox finally escapes, Alastor returns like a signal breaking through dead air, and Vox discovers the hardest part about leaving is realizing you never really stopped listening.Vox becomes obsessed with Alastor the moment they meet, and it turns pathological fast, until Vox spirals into self-harm and Alastor answers his vulnerability with cruelty, calling him disgusting and tightening the control. Vox finally leaves, but spends seven years haunted by the “dead air” Alastor left behind. When Alastor returns, Vox is forced to relive the craving and the damage, and decide if this is closure or a repeat.
OR Seven years after Vox leaves, Alastor comes back, and the signal picks up right where it died.

Of course, the more he gives the more Vox wants to take, regardless of what he has to trade to get it.
Basically Vox is obsessed with Alastor, and Alastor decides to use that knowledge to his advantage. A sexual relationship develops that threatens everything Vox has worked for - and everything Alastor believes about himself.
