Amon had never known Jason to take human prisoners, but as he was dragged into a checkered room with only a chair and a battered boy bound to it, he soon found himself as an exception. Kaneki wasn't well, his mind broken under Jason's relentless torture, but beneath it all, Amon couldn't help but admire him. It was his quiet strength and selflessness which Jason weaponized against Kaneki.
Yet when faced with the reality of what Kaneki was, Amon couldn't help but question everything he believed in. Ghouls didn't cry and they didn't take pain in the place of others.

It had been two years since Eyepatch had been taken prisoner in Cochlea and lost his memories, and now, he was standing before Amon as a fellow Ghoul Investigator. Clearly, he would never get that conversation with Eyepatch. Or maybe he still could?
When Amon invites Haise to his apartment in an attempt to have a discussion with him, Haise confuses the distant longing in Amon's eyes for a sign that Amon was somehow romantically involved with his past self. Amon decides not to correct him.

Life comes to an abrupt halt when everything you knew never was. Well, at least not when it was for you. Finding yourself freshly back in 2012 with nothing to your name is hard enough. Finding yourself navigating another universe is even harder. But finding yourself in the “nostalgic” story of Tokyo Ghoul, where people eat other people - where ghouls are eating humans, has to be completely impossible...right? -
